A special series of FREE author events for schools in South Western Sydney courtesy of Penguin Random House

October 20, 2017 by Jacqueline Harvey 29 Comments

Do you go to school in South Western Sydney? Well, for 3 weeks in November, my publisher, Penguin Random House is sponsoring a very special tour where you can have me visit your school for FREE! You’ll be able to order books online before the event to have signed on the day and I promise I’ll be entertaining, educational, funny and informative. I love talking to girls and boys and my presentation is suitable for everyone! Lots of schools don’t have the opportunity to have an author visit their school (as there is usually a fee involved) so if that’s your school and you’d like to have me visit and I’ll talk about books and writing and tell lots of funny stories, please tell your teachers, librarians, parents or principals to get in touch with my publicist, Zoe Bechara to get be part of the tour program.

The area that we’re covering is mapped out down below. If your school is just outside the area you could probably still try :).

From Dot Tonkin Head of Marketing and Publicity for Children’s and YA at Penguin Random House Australia

Jacqueline Harvey has one of the best author presentations in Australia and her talk is suited to boys and girls, years 2-6, for audience sizes up to 800 (she’s done Writers’ Festivals before with bigger crowds). The minimum audience size is 200.

The area Jacqueline is visiting is roughly a square made by Lidcombe in the NE corner, Padstow SE cnr, Prestons SW cnr and Horsley Park NW cnr  – so all places like Revesby, Bankstown, Yagoona, Condell Park, Bass Hill, Villawood, Chester Hill, Cabramatta, Moorebank, Liverpool, Fairfield, Wetherill Park, Bonnyrigg, Green Valley, Casula and more.

She’s visiting 2 schools a day. First in first served as to who will get them and we’ll do our best to give you your preferred day and time between 13-30 November but we will be trying to visit schools close to each other where possible.

You will need to set aside 1.5 hours for the visit. 40 minutes author talk, 20 minutes Q&A and half an hour for Jacqueline to sign books and chat with the keener students afterward.

Please email Zoe at zbechara@penguinrandomhouse.com.au to express your interest in a visit and let me know if you have any questions.

I’ve seen hundreds of author talks over the years and I can really vouch that Jacqueline’s is one of the best.

Please feel free to pass on to any schools in the area described as well.

Best wishes

Dot

PS – and if you need some extra back-up to get this over the line with your school community, perhaps refer them to this excellent website by the NZ government: https://natlib.govt.nz/schools/reading-engagement/understanding-reading-engagement/reading-for-pleasure-a-door-to-success

    Dear Jacqueline,

Sounds exciting but I live in Albury.
At least I still have a chance for you to visit the winner of The Premiers Reading Challenge.

      Hi Halle,

Sometimes we tour in regional areas so fingers crossed that next year when Kensy and Max comes out we might be able to get to Albury.

      Best wishes,
      Jacqueline

Is the Southern Highlands too far south for you? Charlotte is one of the first girls at Tudor House and she has introduced everyone to Alice Miranda. We bought a set for the library and the kids (and teachers) love the books. If you feel like a bit of a road trip, Tudor House would love to have you visit.

      Hi Tracee,

Unfortunately, the area is very limited due to the sponsorship of the publisher and bookseller involved and really only extends within the boundaries on the map. I was in Bowral last Wednesday doing an event at Oxley College – I wish I’d have known Tudor House was keen! You can book me through my agent, The Children’s Bookshop in Beecroft for school visits or wait until the launch of my new series, Kensy and Max which comes out in March and there might be the possibility of a publisher supported visit at that time. I’d love to come to Tudor at some point. I taught at Gib Gate for the first 10 years of my career during the 90s.

      Best wishes,
      Jacqueline

      Thanks Hattie!

It really is an amazing opportunity and I am excited to be part of it. One of the things that I love most about being a writer is getting out and about to meet the amazing children who inspire me to write (It certainly wasn’t easy to meet a real writer, when I was growing up :)).

      Best wishes,

      Jacqueline

      Hi Taylah,

I actually come to Brisbane quite a lot.

At this stage, I have no plans to travel to Brisbane before the end of this year, but will certainly be touring the country as part of the launch of Kensy and Max in early part of 2018.

Hope to meet you in Brisbane next year.

      Best wishes,

      Jacqueline

            Hi Miss D,

I am very happy to visit and speak with children at High Schools and we are in the midst of plotting and planning a big tour (which will certainly include Brisbane) next year to celebrate the Kensy and Max launch.

Hope to see you somewhere in 2018.

            Best wishes,

            Jacqueline

        Hi Lucy,

All of the schools are in a small pocket of south western Sydney – so perhaps I’ll get to you next year.

        Best wishes,

      Hi Chelsea,

I usually aim to get the Newsletter out within the first week of the month- but often need to manage the competing priorities such as touring and, of course, writing deadlines:). This month, we have an exciting announcement to make; I expect that the Newsletter will be sent out mid next week.

      Best wishes,

      Jacqueline

      Hi Lucy,

I will be coming to Queensland on tour early next year so you never know – perhaps I will get to your school. Thanks for sharing about the website – I love that my readers are so generous telling their friends about the books.

I don’t really have a favourite song (there are just too many good ones) but I do love Taylor Swift (the new album not as much as the last one) and I adore Ed Sheeran. I had a dream once that he married my stepdaughter and I was very happy to be his mother in law!! I really like PINK and an oldie called Rod Stewart. I have a pretty broad taste in music from pop to country to classical.

      Have a great week.
