Alice-Miranda is off on a new adventure – and this time she’s heading to…

January 4, 2018 by Jacqueline Harvey 410 Comments

Lots of readers have been asking me where Alice-Miranda is headed next. So, here are some clues. This country is famous for many things; golf, tartan, bagpipes…have you got it yet? A certain monster in a loch, a castle perched on a high cliff overlooking a city, rolling green hills, whiskey and haggis.

If you’ve guessed Scotland then you’d be right. I can’t reveal too much more as I’ve only written 15,000 words but there will be lots of fun, friends, enemies, a big mystery and plenty of laughs too. I’ve been back at my desk since the 27th December and have a deadline that I don’t even want to think about – fortunately I’m loving the story, so hopefully the words will continue to flow and I’ll make my targets each day.

I look forward to sharing more very soon and I hope that Alice-Miranda in Scotland will be on your reading list for later in the year.

I bet you it’s Alethea! We haven’t seen any of her since Alice-Miranda went to New York. Maybe Fabien or Lucinda will come back, we haven’t seen them for a while either. The carnies should be back in town soon, too.

Same. I really think Fabien and Lucinda will be in the book. They haven’t been in any books since book 7. Or maybe Coco and Sunny will come, or Princess Kiko. Sasha, Blade, Quincy, Ava and Sophie might be there too.

I just finished reading Alice Miranda In The Alps (which is amazing!!!) and can’t wait for the latest book to come out so that I can add it to my collection. I have a feeling that Alethia will be back and that Caprice will turn over a new leaf. Maybe even some new friends or long lost relatives?

          Hi Georgia,

I am so happy that you enjoyed AM in the Alps – it was such a fun story to write. There are now 17 books in the collection so you’ve got quite a few still to read as the Alps is number 12 in the series. Alethea and Caprice will definitely surprise you along the way. I’m writing number 18 at the moment and Caprice and Millie are having some problems!

          Best wishes,

        Hi Ashley,

I have actually never specified which country Alice-Miranda lives in – although given there is a queen and there are lots of villages I guess in my mind it’s more England than anywhere else (although it could be Australia too if you wanted it to be). I wanted readers to make up their own minds.

I made up this place called Willow Island. It’s exactly like Alice-Mirandas home. Also, I have a weird feeling that Kiko from Alice-Miranda in Japan is going to be in this book. Am I right?

          Thanks! 🙂

      Hi Kanita,

I’ve travelled to Scotland a number of times and really love it. There’s lots of folklore and history and given it’s one of my favourite places I thought why not. I have a lot of Scottish friends and connections too – which means I can consult with them on the story when I need to.

I’m really enjoying writing the story – and who knows where she’ll go next.

Also, when’s the new TV series going to start?
    From Holly 🙂
P.S. I think my favourite characters might be Jacinta and Lucas.

Same! I absolutely LOVE Jacinta. Plus I read a comment with Jacinta and Lucas: Together they’re Lucinta! It’s fab. Hey maybe when they grow up like adults they’ll name their daughter Lucinta! Like Lucinda. She’s great too. I loved it when she stood up to her dad. So brave. Felt bad for her after her punishment. btw loving the ‘lucinta’ thing. If only Caprice would stop annoying them.

P.S Jacqueline ( if ur reading this) ur books r the greatest ever!!! Won’t ever stop reading them. Even when I’m an adult. :3

I LOVE Alice mirander SO SO MUCH! Although I got a bit confused reading number 15, I decided it was a GREAT book! I like to read stories and books over and over again so I get what it’s saying. I’ve only read #15 once but it’s still COOL. I would LOVE to read about Kensy and Max, they sound fantastic.

My class thought that you’d have to be a nerd to read for pleasure but I disagreed and told every kid so. Even the teacher!

Now they are afraid not to pick up a book and read it! : D

Hi!! I absolutely can not wait for the next A-M!!
I was thinking about this the other night, and I though to myself, “well, an Alice-Miranda book normally comes out every February and September. But since Kenzie and Max are coming out, Jacqueline wont have enough time. Maybe it’ll come out in June? That’d be smart. ”
    And I was right!!
I love Alice-Miranda!! I miss reading about her, and her friends!!

    Tay❤

Btw, how old is Millie? Is she 12? And is Sloane 12? I’m quite confused, because in A-M #7 it says
“Millie walked between the 2 older girls” Or something along hose lines.
And I knew that Cinta is 13 (now) and that Millie is 12,so I Sloane like a few months older? I’m quite confused.

Btw sorry for this being so long!! I just havent been on here in ages, and I miss finding out about his stuff!!

      Hi Taylah,

I couldn’t have done an Alice-Miranda at the same time I was doing Kensy and Max so you’re right about the change of scheduling. Millie and Sloane are roughly the same age – Sloane is a little older than Millie (almost 13 in the next book) and Jacinta is a year older.

Hope you’ve had a lovely holiday – I know you’re back at school this week in QLD. NSW have another week or so off.

Well I can’t easily answer some of those questions as I’ve never divulged where AM lives. It could be Australia or England or perhaps somewhere like England. I’ve always left it up to readers to work out for themselves. Cecelia comes from the same country as Hugh. Her parents owned Hightons stores all over the world. I love Chessie too and she’s having a good amount of air time in Scotland.

        Only 20!
I LOVE Alice-Miranda and all her friends and their Adventures! I Can imagine at least 30! after all you have left hints about new books everywhere! Lucinda coming! Coco coming! More Queens colors events! Sasha coming! But of course I know they can’t keep coming forever, after all before we know it Alice-Miranda will be a grumpy 16-year-old! At the moment I’m 13 and obsessed with reading! Swear to God; I read about 1 and a half 250page books in a day! (I read during Lunch and Recces!) I think I told you a while back in a different forum but one day I want to be an author and teacher one day, Just like you! Speaking of which; How do you become a “famous” author? I’ve written countless books long and short but how do you get them into the ‘Real’ World?

        From Your #1 Fan,

That’s great you enjoy writing so much and you have a very clear ambition about what you want to do in life. I recommend that you enter as many writing competitions as you can so that will get your name out there and it gives you a foot in the door with publishers. I love your books so much! I’ve been reading them since the first one came out.
Here are some questions that I have, 1. Will Caprice finally become a better person? 2. Will Sasha & Blade come back in future books? Because I really want to see more future chemistry with Sasha and Millie. 3. Do you think Sep or Sloane will get a love life or some more character development?

    That’s all thanks <3

      Hi Minnie,

Argh – Caprice – she’s an ongoing issue isn’t she? In Scotland she hasn’t been playing nicely at all but I think she’s going to play a role in helping everyone at the end. Sasha gets a mention in Scotland as he and Millie have been exchanging letters, so you never know. Sep and Sloane’s love lives are a little on hold but they are very involved in the Scotland story.

Hope that answers your questions for now.

      Best wishes,
      Jacqueline

When you get to be twelve(like me) you might have too much homework and no time to read. You would have to tell your teacher if that happens. : )

I’m a big fan and I aspire to be an author like you one day! I can’t wait to read about Alice Miranda’s adventures in Scotland and I am also very excited to watch the Alice Miranda TV show. I was wondering if I would be able to watch it in New Zealand and if so which channel?
I’m also eagerly waiting to read about the extraordinary mysteries that Kensy and Max face as I love mystery series some of my favourites being by Enid Blyton (One of my favourite authors besides from you and Roald Dahl).

I’m sure that you will get to be able to watch Alice-Miranda in NZ – but I’m just not sure about the avenue for that at the moment. Fingers crossed I have some good new soon. It sounds like you and I have very similar taste in books as I adored Enid Blyton when I was a girl and I love Roald Dahl too.

Alice-Miranda has been signed to be made into a television series- it’s super exciting, I know! But, it is also an ongoing process and, people who know about these things tell me, that getting a movie or television series to the screen takes time.

I will certainly update details on the blog when I am allowed to say more.

I bet. Alice Miranda is going to Scotland. I love your books Jacqueline Harvey! Wonder if Caprice is up to no good. I can wait till the book comes out. Try making a book involving Alice Miranda and her friends going to Hawaii or Fiji! Going diving and snorkeling for the first time! Alice Miranda us so nice and cunning she is my best friend. I love reading Alice miranda stories. So far I’m up to reading Alice miranda Shines Bright. Mr Parker ( myrtles husband) was in coma for 3 years, and he’s gone missing with the nurse! This is a nail biting mystery which Alice Miranda and her friends try to solve. Jacinta is also super duper sad because of moving to another school and leaving her friends. She hardly talks to them. She tries to get in trouble so she doesn’t need to leave on her new school check out and gets to stay. Alice Miranda has 2 things to juggle at a time. Please replie back! Love your books! Stay Alice Miranda!

    Hello,
    Just a couple of questions.
Will Alice-Miranda be doing Highland dancing and/or Scottish Country dancing when she is in Scotland? I do Highland dancing and have the Australian Championships over Easter.
When will the Alice-Miranda tv series be aired in Australia? I have really been enjoying the books and would love to have a tv series.
I was wondering if Clementine Rose and the wedding wobbles is the last book in the series? I would like it if it was not.
I have just finished the first book of Kensy and Max. I am not sure I am able to wait until September for the next book!
Thank you for your awesome books.

One of my favourite scenes in the book involves Highland dancing. That’s fantastic about your dancing and all the best in the championships. I’m not sure about the Alice-Miranda television series but we will know more very soon. I am writing another two Clemmie books at least. I’m so glad that you enjoyed Kensy and Max – I’m working on book 2 again starting next week.
Thank you for your lovely message 🙂

I am wondering Jacqueline, Will Caprice ever turn into a ‘good’ character?

Just finished reading Alice-Miranda in Scotland! It’s AWESOME! I totally LOVE the Lucinta moments. So cute! Love the way Neville thinks about A-M. It’s ADORABLE!

I have some ideas for the next Alice-Miranda book. I think you should title it ‘Alice-Miranda in Love’. Then you can continue relationships like Lucinta, Millie & Sasha, Blade & Caprice, A-M & Neville. Maybe you could also start Sep & Sloane’s love lives. Maybe you could also make Miss Wall and Mr Pienaar get together too!

I think that A-M should go to Italy, Australia, Mexico, Hawaii, New Zealand, Canada, and maybe even Antarctica! That would be cool.

I think that Miss Reedy should have a baby, and if she does can you call him/her Heather or Timmy? You also need a new mean girl to get in the way of everyone’s love lives. Maybe you could have a platinum-blonde haired girl called Stella or Destiny? I think you should also have a mean boy called Darren, and maybe you can make him and Stella/Destiny get together! They would suit each other. I can’t wait for the TV series! What time will it be on?

    Thanks,
    Charlotte

P.S. My favourite characters are Lucinta, A-M, and Marcus & Imogen.

Hi Charlotte – you have so many great ideas – love them! I never know where things are heading next so you’ll just have to wait and see. I’m still not sure what’s happening with the television series – it’s so tricky and all depends on everything falling into place. Let’s cross our fingers!

I just realised it is may 28 today! Can’t wait to read AM Scotland. Also can you do a AM in England? I know she kind of already lives there, maybe Australia or France (as in the south of France)
BTW my name is French so if you do one can you use my name? It’s fine if you don’t, honestly I’m cool
Soz if this is too long.

    Hi Jacqueline,

I just finished reading Alice-Miranda in Scotland. It wasn’t just a GORGEOUS book but it was MAGNIFICENT which is a word that I hardly ever use to describe anything. 🙂

There is just no words that describe Alice-Miranda in Scotland!!! I loved the plot and how the characters are connected throughout the story.
At the beginning I was sad but end he end I was Esthetic!!!
But I was wondering how old Neville is and if he’s the same age as Alice-Miranda or maybe a year older.

SPOILER ALERT!!! If you don’t want to have a really important part possibly spoiled, do NOT read on! 🙂

Alice-Miranda and Neville would be really good together as they are both problem solvers and have a lot in common. I also wonder if Alice-Miranda feels the same way… But she did say that part about holding hands…
    I should probably stop spoiling this… 🙂

Thank-you Jacqueline, you are my fav EVER author and I look up to you because I LOVE to write. Can’t wait for Alice-Miranda nineteen. And I really hope you make it! I Love Alice-Miranda and I think you are a fabulous roll model. 🙂

I am hoping to be back there again next year. I am so pleased that you have enjoyed your AM book. Hi Jacqueline,
I love your books! Alice-Miranda is such an awesome character to read about. My best friend and I have started writing another book in the series, just for fun. It is called Alice-Miranda in New Zealand and features our favourite holiday spot, O’hope beach. It is an awesome beach with lots of sun and is the perfect place for boogie boarding! Maybe you could actually write about Alice-Miranda coming Aoteroa (The land of the long white cloud)?! Some other cool places in New Zealand are Wellington, Napier, Oakhune, Queenstown, Taupo and the Coramandel. Thank you so much for the exciting and heart-warming stories. Please keep writing forever!

I love NZ – so much so that I am building a new house there at the moment. It’s just outside Queenstown so I think an adventure in the land of the long white cloud sounds a great idea. I will live part time in New Zealand and part time in Australia. Kensy and Max will definitely go to NZ in their adventures.

    Dear Jacqueline,

I cannot thank you enough for your books, I have loved them since I received the first Alice-Miranda on my 9th birthday in 2010. I am very excited to say I just got a call from the bookshop where I work to say that Alice-Miranda 17 has arrived for me (much to the concern of my boss). After not studying for year 12 exams all week and instead reading both Kenzy and Max books and catching up on Alice-Miranda 15 and 16, this comes as another disastrous blow for my literature trial exam tomorrow as I will be occupied for the rest of the day, and not by Browning’s poetry. I cannot wait for number 18. You are never too old for these stories, thank you for that.

    Hi Jacqueline

I’m a fan of your books, and have read all of them. I think it would be cool if you did an Alice Miranda book in New Zealand (cause I live there) and think it would be interesting, and an Alice Miranda book in Israel (I’m from there. And my name is also Israeli) I think it would be cool and different, also I can see Mr Plumpton accidentally getting arrested by the tight security in Israel.
I also have a couple of questions.
    .how old is neville
.can we have some Sasha and Millie moments in the next book
.and please can you make more Lucas and Jacinta interactions and romance in the next book, cause I feel they didn’t have as big roles in a.m in Scotland as they did in the earlier books when they weren’t a couple, but I like them together and want to read more about them.
. Will sep get a girlfriend, I can kinda see him and caprice together if she changes and becomes nice

Sincerely a fAn who hopes you write back

Btw AM in Scotland is the BEST and I especially love Lucas and Jacinta because I’m really into romance novels and AM is my fav book which makes it even better. I’m looking forward for more Lucinta romance in AM Keeps the Beat PLS tell me there’s Lucinta romance! Anyway, sorry this is so long but PLEASE reply!!!

    Thank you so much for

      Hi Laelah,

Thank you for your beautiful message. It makes me so happy to know how much you enjoy the books (as it takes a lot of effort to write them and it’s wonderful to see them appreciated the way they are). I adore Lucas and Jacinta too and there is plenty of them in the new book – I look forward to hearing what you think.

      Best wishes,
      Jacqueline

    Hi
I was wondering about Miss Grimms baby. There was a bit about it in one of the books but we haven’t really heard much more about it. I definitely think that Alethea will be back and I feel although she might get into trouble in some way and not take the blame or she didn’t do anything wrong. Could you please do a book of Alice-Miranda going to New Zealand (I am a Kiwi) and have her visit some well known places there. I had to move to Thailand from New Zealand and a book of Alice-Miranda going to Thailand and learning new things about the country would be a really fascinating story. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the books and I am doing a re-read of all of he books at the moment for the third time to refresh my memory before I get the next book. I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for some absolutely awesome books,
    Samantha

        Hi Samantha,

Maybe you could borrow it from the library or ask for it for Christmas which will be here before we know it. I hope that you get to read it soon.

        Best wishes,

      Hi Samantha,

Miss Grimm’s baby appears in Alice-Miranda Keeps the Beat (book 18). She is super cute and the girls adore her. Alethea makes a reappearance in AM in Scotland and she’s changed quite a bit. That’s exciting you are living in Thailand. It must be hot though – much hotter than NZ. We are in Queenstown at the moment staying in our house here for the summer. We love it. I adore that it’s not too hot most of the time as I have an aversion to humidity and heat. I’m so pleased that you enjoy the books – I hope you get to see the movie soon too.

      Best wishes,
      Jacqueline x

    Hello Jacqueline!!!!!!

I’ve heard you’re putting together Alice-Miranda in the Outback. (super excited for it to come out) I was wondering if Lucinta comes along and there is more romance because I absolutely adore the couple and so does everyone else. But this would be a spoiler so don’t tell hehe.
Also I just watched the AM movie and it is amazingggg but what was different to the book was… why does Alethea look like Caprice so much? idk that was what was different BUT overall the movie was great.
Anyways I’ve texted too much and I will leave you to it hehe

Thank you SO much for your amazing books you are such a talented author

    Hullo Jacqueline,
I simply adore your books and I am thrilled that you also write the Kensy and Max series.
I was wondering how many more books you are planning to write in the Alice-Miranda and Kensy and Max series. I own all the Alice-Miranda and Kensy and Max books in both series so far, but it would be exquisite if there were more books.
Also, a suggestion is that they could visit Antarctica. It is most likely truly spectacular there, so I firmly believe that it would make a superb setting.
I just want to say thank you for writing the delightful books, and I aspire to be an author one day.
    Thank you for your time.
