Alice-Miranda Surfing Safari!

February 05, 2017

Alice-Miranda Surfing Safari!

Australia is renowned for its golden beaches and world class surfing, so when one of Alice-Miranda’s biggest fans (and a girl who has become very special to me) asked if she could use an image of Alice-Miranda on her new surfboard, well I thought, how cool would that be! Justine’s dad, Ian, has a surf decal company so that means he does all the jazzy artwork on surfboards, customising them for companies and creating amazing one off boards. His work is fabulous and I knew he would make this the coolest surfboard on the coast!

He also has the biggest printer I’ve ever seen so that he can get the images big enough for the boards. The image below left is the print out before it goes on the board.

So now, Justine has the one and only Alice-Miranda surfboard in existence and how great does it look. Here are some photos of the board, Justine and me and even better, Justine surfing on the Sunshine Coast. I’ve only tried surfing once and was a complete failure at it but as you can see, Justine is fantastic!

      Hi Jacqueline,
I just wanted to say that I was really surprised to hear that in book 13 of Alice Miranda, that they got a cavoodle called fudge because I have a cavoodle called fudge!! I was laughing a lot when I read that!

          Hi Jaqueline,
I have a cavoodle too, and when she was a puppy she looked really really really similar to fudge on the cover of Alice-Miranda to the rescue. Her fur has gotten lighter now, and her name is Tiger Lily.

Dear Jacqueline,
Hi! I think that surf board is just so awesome. I am so jealous of Justine- the girl who owns it.
I love your books so much especially Alice-Miranda books. I think my favourite one is Alice-Miranda at Camp and Alice-Miranda at School. I have just submitted my entry in the CHILD competition. I hope you like it.
You have inspired my writing and I now write alot more than I used to. Most people say I have a natural talent.

Dear Ms Harvey

Oh my goodness! That’s amazing! Such a dedicated young girl with a truly amazing father! Almost makes me wish I had one! (Unfortunately, balance and I do not mix so surfing is a big no no).

On another note, I was reading through the comments – as I do – and I saw that the next book in the series will be Alice-Miranda in Hollywood? I immediately got so excited! I just finished Alice-Miranda Holds The Key (which was fantastic by the way) and the thought of the whole gang going to Hollywood made me very bouncy! I know the last book barely came out but I so badly want to make predictions! Like Lawrence’s involvement! It’s Hollywood, he’s a movie star, boom! They mix!

Also Lawrence means Lucas and Lucas is my favourite male character. His unrelenting sarcasm means so much to me, ma’am, I don’t think you understand πŸ™‚ He only cracks a joke (a purposeful one at least, everything he says makes me laugh honestly) once a book, or every few books but I look forward to each and every one. Maybe I have too much of a bond to a fictional character but… I can’t help it! It made me a tad bit sad when I saw that he, Sep and Jacinta weren’t in Holds The Key, because I’ve grown so close to them mentally in the past fifteen books, but I also realize their involvement wasn’t necessary and I absolutely adored the book anyway.

I need to say something about our darling heroine actually; she is someone I aspire to be. Nevermind that she is nine years old and I am much older, her morals and ethics really make me wish I were like her; I suppose she’s like a goal for me to reach? She’s so understanding and forgiving and I just love her so much and I’m really glad she’s the heroine because nobody else would fit πŸ™‚ I really wanted to say something about Aice-Miranda because, I’ve been reading your blogs for awhile now and I’ve noticed that so much love goes to the other characters, but not our main girl! I’ve seen so, so many regarding Jacinta (oh my goodness I love Jacinta, and I would probably go on and on about how beautiful and amazing and ukgvsdhrjbcfdkj she is but I feel like you might be a bit sick of hearing of her, haha) so I thought hey, let’s show Jacqueline that her main character is well-loved too πŸ˜‰

I realize this has gone very off-topic.. I apologise for that πŸ™‚ I hope you have a wonderful day and forgive my ramblings about these amazing characters you’ve created. Blesses.

Thanks for your post and the interest, insight and time that you have put into your comments! I am surprised and humbled that the stories evoke such interest and that the irrepressible little girl with the chocolate curls, who some say, is “the best version of yourself that you want to be”, is inspiring some of the children, who inspire me to write the stories!

This looks so cool! I went to a tea about your books a few years ago, and bought your fifth Alice-Miranda book, which you then signed for me. I read it and I loved it. That year I got a box set of some of the first books in the series, and since then I’ve collected them, which means a lot of begging my parents whenever a new one comes out. I’ve just read the fifteenth book and I loved it. Who is Millie’s cousin? Is it going to be revealed at a later date? In March there will be the Newcastle writer’s festival and I get to go to the one you’re teaching! I CAN’T WAIT! Alice-Miranda in Hollywood sounds so cool! I can’t wait to read it!

    Hi Kiera,

Perhaps you could ask your librarian if she or he can get them in. They are on the Premier’s reading challenge in most states so they would be a good resource to have and I know that the kids at your school would enjoy them. Where do you go to school? Perhaps email me the details jacqueline@jacquelineharvey.com.au and I can see what I can do to help.

Hi,
i was wondering how old all of the characters are, in Alice Miranda in Scotland? I’m so disappointed that you came to my primary school in Sydney to meet Miss Roussos; the sister of my best friend, and i wasn’t able to see you, even though my sister did.

can you do a book where she comes to Australia, or goes on a tour of sydney, and some other cities, and then goes into the outback?

    Hi Rose,

That’s a pity you weren’t able to come to the launch event with Sophie. She’s a sweet girl. I’m definitely thinking about a story in Australia. Have you read Kensy and Max yet? They are likely to come to Australia soon. The characters are all getting older (of course) AM is now 10 and a bit, Millie is 13 and Jacinta and Lucas are around 14.

Hope to meet you somewhere soon.

Hi Jaqueline,
You are such an amazing person and you are a author of the gods! I was just wondering about book 18. In the book it states that Lucas has a new step-dad, but I though Lawrence Ridley was already his dad. I might have got muddled up, but I’m extra excited for the next book! Sorry if I just wasted your time but thank you anyway for the extraordinary and crazy good books!

    Hi Zari,

Thank you for your kind words. Lucas’s mum gets remarried and that’s how he has a new stepdad. Have you seen the movie yet, Alice-Miranda Friends Forever? It’s on at the cinemas around Australia at the moment but only for a few more days. I will be going to the Blacktown Drive In this weekend to watch a special pyjama party screening.

Hi Jacqueline!

If you haven’t yet decided on what your idea will be for book 19 or 20, maybe you could make it about Alice-Miranda and her friends going to Africa, like a safari or something. Or maybe she went to Hawaii, or they go to Australia! Or Sydney to watch something at the opera house. Or how about Winchersterfield Downsfordale doing another another play with Fayle, like when Lucas said in book 16, that Mr Lipp wanted to do Romeo and Juliet. My favourite character is Jacinta. She is hilarious when she doesn’t mean it, and I’m sure is every bit amazing you have described her at not just gymnastics, but probably everything. Also I think Lucas and Jacinta are better together. They have bonded strongly and become so close close over the years since book 2 at Highton Hall. Caprice, on the other hand, is as horrid as Alethea Goldsworthy and mentioned in book 14 she hated Felicity Fang even though they were the same. I’m probably sure that she doesn’t care about other people unless she is humiliating them. She is my least fav character: selfish, rude, annoying, grumpy when annoyed and a really big attention seeker. Such a drama queen. I feel like there is a better side of her but she does’nt know it yet. (sorry if this is too much! Not really a comment anymore, I think)

BTW I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE your books. They are so deep and mysterious and detailed… they are the best books in the entire history of mankind!!!!!!!!!! I am your biggest ever fan Jacqueline!!!! XD

Thanks Emma – I love that you are so invested and you know the characters inside out! I agree that Caprice is not a nice girl at all. Hopefully she will change for the better but who knows! I love your books soooooo much, and I cannot wait for Alice-Miranda in the outback to come out! I have a suggestion for book 20:
Maybe Alice-Miranda and all of the child cast should get to go to the movie premiere of Nellie Williams: the life and times of a frontier woman? Then maybe Caprice becomes a better person, and is offered another acting job? Just some suggestions. Also, that surfboard is awesome. She is so lucky! I think you should make some other Alice-Miranda merchandise. also, what casting website did you use for the Alice-Miranda movie? I really want to become an actress, and I need places to find acting jobs. I hope there is also another kensy and Max book.
Bye-Bye!!! πŸ™‚

Hi Sophie, thanks for the suggestion. Kensy and Max: Freefall has just been released and another one will be out later this year. Yes, Juzzy is very lucky to have that surfboard – as far as I know it is the only Alice-Miranda surfboard in the world! The cast for the Alice-Miranda movie has already been selected, sorry.

    Hi Amber,

There are still a few months to go until Alice Miranda in Egypt will be released but I hope you enjoy the read once you get your hands on a copy! Although lockdown had negatives, there were also lots of positives – I enjoyed having time to read more, but missed doing my events as I enjoy meeting my readers.

Yes, Juzzy sure is lucky! I think she is the only person to have this amazing surfboard.

    Happy reading,

Laelah

Hello!

I’ve been a huge fan of the Alice-Miranda books since I was six, and now I am twelve and still re-reading them all over again! I am hoping that Alice-Miranda does go over 20 books because it would be so sad once it ends πŸ™ Also, just some ideas for book twenty or future books (if you do continue writing them) perhaps you could base it off Christmas since you haven’t done any where they celebrate christmas, or maybe write is based off her but 15 years later when they’re all grown up, (also, hoping that Caprice is a bit nicer in book 20!). I know you probably can’t include these because you’re writing it already, but I can’t wait for Alice-Miranda’s next adventure in June! How exciting.

Thanks very much,
Laelah

    Hi Laelah,

Thank you for your kind message! You have been reading the Alice-Miranda series for quite some time now, thank you for being part of the journey.

That is a great idea, I love hearing about what my readers want to happen in a plot/setting. In the future, I think it would be fun to write about Alice-Miranda when she and her friends are a bit older…

I hope you enjoy Alice-Miranda in Egypt once you get your hands on a copy in June. πŸ™‚

    Best wishes,

    Jacqueline

Hi Jacqueline,
I love your Alice Miranda books and I was wondering if you would write some more books to the series? I would be delighted if you would write about Singapore and other places in Asia.

    Hi Chloe,

Thank you for the suggestion! I’m currently taking a break from writing the Alice-Miranda series, but you never know what the future holds…

Have you read Kensy and Max: Take Down? That is set in Singapore. πŸ™‚
