Book Week – Dubbo, Narromine, Melbourne and Wagga, here I come!

Hi Everyone,

Well, Book Week is almost here – it’s officially next week in Australia but many schools celebrate at various times during August and even into September. I’m off to Dubbo and Narromine for Book Week then the following week I’ll be in Melbourne, then touring around Wagga before heading back to Melbourne for Roald Dahl Day in Federation Square on Sunday 4 September. It’s going to be a fantastic couple of weeks and I can’t wait to meet everyone. Not to mention that we have the official Sydney launch of Alice-Miranda in China next weekend too! I love Yum Cha and this is going to be a wonderful morning out. Don’t forget though, that if you’re in South East Queensland (the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Ipswich areas) we have a fabulous high tea launch happening on Sunday 11 September and there are still tickets available. Click on the link to get all the details.

Congratulations to the winners and shortlisted authors and illustrators in this year’s Children’s Book Council Awards. Wonderful to see so many friends on the podium!

If you live in Dubbo, I’m having an after school signing at The Book Connection on Wednesday 24 August from 4pm (although I’ll probably get there a little earlier than that). Come along and say hello and get your Alice-Miranda and Clementine Rose books signed.

Last week I spent a day at Maroubra Junction Public School – what a brilliant bunch! I absolutely loved my time there. The children and teachers were so inspiring and loads of fun.

Don’t forget that I’ll be speaking at the Melbourne Writers’ Festival School Days Program on Tuesday 30 August. If your school isn’t attending the festival and you can convince your parents to take you along, I’m sure that you’ll get a lot out of the sessions.

I’m excited to be heading to Wagga Wagga for  four days between my Melbourne Writers’ events. I’m working with the wonderful Gateway Bookshop and looking forward to hearing about all the amazing events they have planned.

If you’re in Melbourne you can’t miss Roald Dahl Day on Sunday 4 Septemeber in Federation Square. I’ll be on stage with Felice Arena, Tristan Bancks and Gus Gordon as we entertain you with a fabulous readers’ theatre of Fantastic Mr Fox. There will be a story tent, face painting, food stalls, books for sale and signing and lots more that’s top secret until next week!

Roald Dahl Day 2016

Don’t forget it you’re dressing up for Book Week and want to go as one of the characters from Alice-Miranda or Clementine Rose, I’m running a competition on my newsletter and you just have to sign up to enter.

Wherever you are in Australia, have a wonderful Book Week!

Best wishes,

Jacqueline

Can you tell me what a bit of the book is about?? We have our Book Parade on Wednesday the 24th and I am definitely dressing up as Alice Miranda but I can’t decide which book to dress up like as!! I hope you have an excellent time in Melbourne! It sounds very exciting!! My friend Annamaria and I are coming to Woollahra Library though later in September. I hope to see you soon and hope that one of the future Alice Miranda books will be set in either Italy, Australia and Greece

    Hi Anastasia,

I’m sorry that you missed out on tickets for the Yum Cha lunch- the seats just sold out so quickly! We should definitely do this sort of thing again- the people at Zilver have been lovely. There are a few other events coming up around Sydney, during September- so keep an eye on the website!

Only one day to go till the official release date of Alice-Miranda in China– you will have to wait for details- but fans of Jacinta and Lucas will not be disappointed….

Make sure you enter the August competition with your dress up photo!

    Best wishes,

Thanks a lot Jacqueline! Can’t wait for more exciting adventures in your books. They are absolutely fabulously, splendidly, spectacular amazing! I am seriously like counting hours, minutes, seconds, I CAN”T WAIT!!!!!!!! For Book Week I dressed up as Alice Miranda in the Alps, wearing a puffer jacket, pants, boots and had curly hair!! We also had at our school Alice Miranda Shows the way at our school too! Just a quick question: Do you change the name of the book when it goes to countries like America (Alice Miranda on Vacation, Alice Miranda takes the stage etc.)???
I hope I meet you soon and have fun at the Yum Cha lunch.
      Best Wishes, Anastasia

        Hi Anastasia,

Thanks for your lovely message. Have you entered the newsletter competition with your Book Week dress up – I’d love to have an Alice-Miranda in the Alps entry. You just need to make sure that you’re signed up to the newsletter and enter on the link. The only country that changes the titles is the USA and now they don’t because they’re getting the Australian versions. We had a great day at the Yum Cha event – thanks for your good wishes.

        Have a lovely week.

Dear Jacqueline,
My friend’s and I went to the Alice Miranda In China book launch!
It was amazing,
My friends and I ate so much Yum Cha we thought we would explode!
Do you always hold you book launches in NSW or do you hold them in other places?
Also will you be visiting Sydney or Avalon any time soon?
I can’t wait to buy the Alice Miranda 2017 diary!
Is it out in book shops now or are you waiting a little while to release it?
Have a great day.

    Hi Matilda

Thank you! I’m so glad that you and your friends enjoyed the Yum Cha launch! There was certainly more than enough food, wasn’t there?

We are actually holding another big celebration in a few weeks in the Gold Coast, as well as smaller scale events around Sydney. Keep an eye on my website, where all the upcoming events appear in the Events tab. I will leave for a tour of the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Singapore at the end of September- but will be back and touring in November.

The official release date for the Diary is September, but I suspect that some bookshops and online sellers such as Booktopia may already have it for sale.

    Best wishes

      Dear Jacqueline,
      Thankyou.
Do you know where you will be hosting the next book launch for either Alice Miranda or Clementine Rose?
      And wow,
      There was definitely enough food!
We went to China Town after and went to Paddy’s Market’s to buy a Kimono and a fan plus some chop sticks for my hair,
My friends already had that and we dressed up in the competition!
We dressed up for Alice Miranda In China!
      Have a lovely day,

Hi Jacqueline,
I literally just got home and I am soooo excited!
My Dad bought me the Alice Miranda 2017 Diary and Clementine Rose And The Paris Puzzle and rest assured I will be coming to the Alice Miranda 15 and Alice Miranda 16 book launch!
I have already added them to my calendar on my phone!
I love the front cover of the Diary and we will probably be buying the Journal this week or the week after.
And a question,
I was looking at the front cover of the Diary and saw that it was Alice Miranda At The Palace will the 2018 Diary front cover be Alice Miranda In The Alps?
Have a great day,
Matilda

    Hi Matilda,

I’m not certain which Alice-Miranda pic will be on the front cover of the 2018 Diary- we tend to choose the cover closer to publication date!

We will certainly continue to have launches for the upcoming books- apologies, we haven’t yet started to organise them, but have been discussing some ideas for Alice-Miranda Holds the Key.

Glad to see that you and the girls have entered the August Competition!

    Best wishes,

    Jacqueline

Are the Melbourne events only organized through Facebook or is there an Eventbrite link I can save for the next one? Asking for my niece…

September 22, 2016 at 2:07 am

    Jacqueline Harvey

    Hi Abrar,

None of the events are organised via Facebook. I use the Facebook fan page to publicise events; but, the best way to keep informed of upcoming Events is for your niece to keep an eye on my website and, if she hasn’t already, subscribe to my Newsletter- we post and publicise details of future events in advance.

    Best wishes,

    Jacqueline
