Child Magazine Competition – win your name as a character in the 16th Alice-Miranda book!
Hi Everyone,
There seems to be a problem with the website links at the moment to Child Magazine so I’ve pasted the information that was sent as a special electronic mail out last week below. You send your entries to the email address of post box listed in the information.
Best wishes,
Jacqueline
Hi everyone,
In a writing competition like no other, along with my publisher Penguin Random House Australia we are offering CHILD Magazines readers the chance to write themselves into Alice-Miranda’s world!
TO ENTER: Write an exciting Alice-Miranda scene that you think her fans would love to read. Is there a mystery you would like Alice-Miranda to solve next? Adventures she and her friends might have? A new exotic location the pint-sized heroine could travel to? Her adventures are limited only by your imagination!
AND THE PRIZE? I will feature your name as a character in the next Alice-Miranda book! (number 16 in the series). The winning scene will be published on my website, JacquelineHarvey.com.au and a special Alice-Miranda prize pack will be sent your way.
Three runners-up will win a special signed copy of Alice-Miranda Holds the Key, the latest in the Alice-Miranda adventure series.
So get out your best stationery, put on your Alice-Miranda thinking cap (or whatever stylish hat you think she would wear), and start penning your plot.
Send your writing competition entry in the body of an email or via attachment to win@childmags.com.au with the subject line ‘Alice-Miranda’. Entries may also be posted to CHILD Magazines, PO Box 171, Beecroft NSW 2119.
ENTRIES CLOSE: 28 February 2017
Please do not send the entries to me – they need to go to CHILD magazine as per the details above.
To celebrate the release of Alice-Miranda Holds the Key in February, my publisher, Penguin Random House has partnered with the fabulous folks at Child Magazine in Australia to bring you a competition like no other. You can write your way into an Alice-Miranda adventure! That means you can be a character in the story – imagine if I’d have been able to write my way into the Famous Five or the Secret Seven or a Roald Dahl book – I’d have been beside myself!
To find out all the details click HERE to go to the CHILD website.
This competition is only available to residents of Australia and New Zealand.
Good luck and hopefully I will be writing you as a character in the 16th Alice-Miranda adventure!

Hi Miss Harvey,
I absolutely love your books and can’t wait for the 15th one to come out!!! I will be entering the competition for sure! I just had a question: what part of our made up story do we have to write? Can we write any part or are we only allowed to only write the beginning? Also, is it possible to do a joint entry?
Thanks,
Riddhi
Jacqueline Harvey
Hi Riddhi,
Sorry about my slow reply – I’ve been away overseas having a holiday. It is up to you which part of the story you want to write – but you have to do it on your own.
Good luck!
Best wishes,
Jacqueline
Riddhi
Thanks for letting me know. I really want to win the competition! It will be so cool that the winner gets their name in the next book! hope to see you when you visit Perth!
Leila
Hi Jacqueline,
My previous comment hasn’t seemed to be moderated so I’ll write a similar one again 🙂
I absolutely love the Alice-Miranda series, as I’ve had the, since I was younger and I’ve recently re-read and read the whole series (ones I’d already read and new ones) and they’re all sitting on my shelf waiting for the next book. I’d love to win this competition so so so much, and you have no idea how much of an honour it would be to see my name appear in the 16th book. I’m trying a couple of ideas and deciding which one I find most intriguing. Thank you for writing this wonderful series.
Much love,
Leila ❤️
Leila
Plus, HAPPY NEW YEARRRR ❤️
Jacqueline Harvey
And to you too my dear!~
Jacqueline Harvey
Hi Leila,
I’ve been away overseas for a couple of weeks so I’m just getting back to my work now. Even though I travel lots during the year I’m always working so I vowed I wasn’t going to open my computer for the whole time so I could feel like it was a proper break. Thanks for your lovely message and good luck with the competition. I can’t wait to read everyone’s entries.
Best wishes,
Jacqueline
Allie
Why is this competition only open to New Zealand and Australia residents? There are many fans over the world for you, Mrs Harvey, including Hong Kong. My friends and I are very disappointed. 🙁
Jacqueline Harvey
Hi Allie,
I am really sorry about that but the competition is being run by an Australian magazine and they had to set their parameters. Please make sure that you enter the monthly competitions on my newsletter as I don’t limit them at all and send lots of prizes all around the world.
Best wishes (and sorry again),
Jacqueline
Jasmin

What is the book about? I need to know where the setting is because I am not sure about the place and if I do the same thing then my writing will be disqualified. Your books are spectacular by the way!
Jacqueline Harvey
Hi Urvee,
It’s up to you where the book is set – you write a scene about anything you like to do with Alice-Miranda. Thank you for your kind comments.
Best wishes,
Jacqueline

Chiara
hi i love reading ur books :))
i dont know how to enter can u please tell me?
Jacqueline Harvey
Hi Chiara,
You need to click through on the links and read the information and that will help you to get writing. Basically you’ve got to create a scene with Alice-Miranda – perhaps it’s the start of a new mystery or a very exciting part of a story. You decide what happens – think about your favourite AM stories and which parts really hook you in. Write no more than 300 words and then submit the entry to the Magazine as per the directions on the link.
Good luck and happy writing.
Best wishes,
Jacqueline
Teagan
Hi Jacqueline
I love your books so much! Two questions
A.do I write myself into my writing?
B. Can I write the start and if I win do you write the end to my problem
Teagan
Jacqueline Harvey
Hi Teagan,
You can write yourself as a character if you like but you need to focus on Alice-Miranda and some recognisable characters too. No, I won’t be using the winning scene for the book but I will be using the winner’s name to create a new character.
Best wishes,
Jacqueline
Elodie
Hi Jacqueline
Is there a minimum or maximum for the scene you write?
Elodie x
Jacqueline Harvey
Hi Elodie,
I think maximum is 300 words (no minimum) but check the Child website for details.
Best wishes,
Jacqueline

Best of luck, Jacqueline

Kim McDonald
HI,
my daughter has her entry ready but we have just read it is a max of 300 words and her story scene was 920 which she has edited down to 540 but any further and she is upset it wont make sense and that she will not even be considered!!!
The brief was a little hard to be certain if you wanted a mini scene that could be in a story that has a mystery that A-M has to solve (tight for 300 words) or a list of scenario ideas, locations and adventures that might be fun for A-M?
My daughter has taken it as the former and tried to write a compressed scenario that would lead onto A-M solving.
HELP will this be a huge issue????
Kind Regards
Kim
Jacqueline Harvey
Hi Kim,
I have sent you an email.
Best wishes,
Jacqueline
