Clementine Rose and Alice-Miranda at World Book Day

March 11, 2015 by Jacqueline Harvey 12 Comments

Last Friday, the world,  (well parts of it) celebrated World Book Day.  It’s interesting that in Australia, unless you’re an author like me who has a strong affiliation with the UK where I have books published, World Book Day isn’t something you’d necessarily know about at all.  Different countries tend to focus their book celebrations at different times of the year.  World Read Aloud Day was just celebrated on the 4th March and I saw that Read Across America Day was held on the 2nd March.  Obviously this week is a big week for reading.  In Australia we have something called National Simultaneous Storytime which is the 27th May and then there’s Book Week in August.  I love that there are so many celebrations around the world about books and reading.  During Book Week last year I received many photographs from students across Australia who had dressed up as characters from my books, and in the past few days I was thrilled to receive an email from Adriana who dressed up as Clementine Rose for her school’s World Book Day Celebrations in Nottingham and from Eden, who lives in North Yorkshire who dressed up as Alice-Miranda.  Don’t they both look fabulous and I love that Lavender is there too.  If you have a picture of yourself dressed up for World Book Day please email it to me and I will add you to the blog.  But wherever you are and however you’re celebrating books, enjoy!

Adriana as Clementine Rose

Eden as Alice-Miranda

Just wondering if you will be coming east gippsland way sometime this year? It would be great if you could for people who don’t go to the city much(:

          Hi Rosie,
Lovely to hear from you. I’m in Queensland later this year, so hopefully I can get to East Gippsland. Maybe you can ask you Librarian to organise a trip there? She can contact me via email at jacqueline@jacquelineharvey.com.au.
          Best wishes,
          Jacqueline.

Cool dress ups! Once I dressed up as a cat for a dress up day at school thought someone stepped on my tail and it ripped! That’s why now I prefer not to be a four legged animal that crawls!

Oh dear – I can understand why you wouldn’t want to be a cat (or another four legged animal) again! I love seeing the Alice-Miranda and Clementine Rose dress ups.
