Coming soon…Alice-Miranda Holds the Key and exciting events around the country

November 21, 2016 by Jacqueline Harvey 63 Comments

It’s one of the most exciting and challenging times –  the book is written, my wonderful editor, Catriona has woven her magic and it’s my turn to get the final touches to the structural edit of Alice-Miranda’s 15th adventure, Alice-Miranda Holds the Key.

In this adventure, Alice-Miranda has returned home in term time after a frightening accident. Thankfully, she is on hand to help her parents get to the bottom of a crisis which threatens the family business and reputation. Poisons, intrigue, some new friends, a fabulous garden party and a surprising conclusion make the holidays very ‘Alice-Miranda’.

I am thrilled to announce that there will be launches around Australia for Alice-Miranda holds the Key in January 2017 – yes that means if you attend one of the launch events you will get your book at least a week or maybe even two, earlier than they will be available in the shops. Keep an eye on the Events tab of the website, where we will post all the amazing details, as soon as they are confirmed.

In the meantime here’s a reveal of the beautiful cover.

I can’t wait to read Alice Miranda Holds the Key!
Just wondering if any of AM’s school friends will be in it since she’s at home.
Also will Lawrence and Charlotte be in it and if so will Lawrence still be fat.
By the way is there any previews for it. I’d really like to read the start of it!

    Thanks, Matilda

I have some suggestions for some other books.
-Alice-Miranda in Australia where she visits the land down under,
-Alice-Miranda in Egypt where she discovers things about ancient Egypt
-Alice-Miranda in Italy and it could be involved with food.

Be the way I love the cover of the new book and I am really excited to read it.

It’s a mesh of lots of schools really but I started my career working in a school in the Southern Highlands and so I suppose the idea was first based on that but then became a composite of many schools.

Please register Camila on the waitlist and I will be speaking to my publicist this week to see how big that list is and if we can open up any more spaces. At this stage it’s my only Sydney launch event for the book so I will do my best to see if we can increase the numbers.

    Dear Jaqueline,
I can’t wait for Alice-Miranda Holds The Key to come out! I have so many questions and comments, some of them being…
When will you announce the winner of the character competion? How is your writing that good!? Why did you start Alice Miranda? What gave you the inspiration to start writing? Can you give me advice on writing? Just answering those 5 questions will make me the happiest girl in the world.

      Hi Piya,

Alice-Miranda Holds the Key was released on 1 April- but, I’m wondering whether you mean, Alice-Miranda in Hollywood, as that is where the name of the CHILD magazine competition winner will appear. Alice-Miranda in Hollywood is due for release in September 2017. The competition winner was announced in the magazine and also in a blog post on my website in April.

Thank you for your fantastic questions- could I suggest that, if you have not already done so, you quickly subscribe to my Newsletter and enter the Competition this month. The competition is about you asking questions about the stories, about writing, about me. You could be in the running to win an Alice-Miranda or Clementine Rose book of your choice! Obviously, I will answer the winning and many other questions, too :).

There is also a link to a vlog (a video blog) that I put together answering some readers questions.
      https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCG0TuRh3XOWwjlG3x_tFHzg.

Feel free to check out my website (previous blog posts and information on writing tips) and, if you don’t win the competition, why not post your questions again?

Best wishes and good luck in the competition,

      Jacqueline

    Hi Jacqueline,
I just finished reading Alice-Miranda Holds The Key and have enjoyed it so much. I think it has some very important morels such as, don’t hold back to tell people who care about you how you really feel. I love the way you really bring your readers into the story and I think you should write more inspiring books. Also, I would like to know some of your tips for young writers and ideas for things to put in our stories.

Hope you’ve had a excellent day, Thank you, and please continue to write these wonderful books.

      Hi Nancy,

I’m glad that you enjoyed Alice-Miranda Holds the Key and appreciate your thoughtful comments. I am humbled that readers are so invested and involved in the stories.

There are lots of writing tips on my website at https://jacquelineharvey.com.au/teachers/ but, my top tips are:

      1) Read, read and read some more.
      2) Write the kind of stories that you, yourself would enjoy reading.
      3) Be observant and make sure that you have a notebook and you take it with you wherever you go. I now use the notes pages on my phone or iPad quite a bit because when you see something interesting/funny/eye catching, you need to write it down or you will forget
      4) Practice short exercises – write a description or develop a character and drop them into an unusual situation and see how they handle it.
      5) Fall in love with your characters – I feel like mine are real a lot of the time.
      6) Plan your stories – plan the big ideas and know pretty much how it will end before you start. I don’t know all the details but I have a guide so I know where I’m heading.
      7) Try to set yourself goals – enter a competition or write a 500 word story – look for reputable competitions via websites like Dee White’s Dee Scribe, via the NSW Writers’ Centre or the Children’s Book Council. Depending where you live often the councils have competitions in conjunction with the local libraries.
      8) Most of all have fun with it!

      Best wishes,

      Jacqueline
