Fantastic Writing Competition for Kids!

CALLING ALL BUDDING WRITERS
One of the best competitions for kids I’ve seen has just launched!

It’s called the Australian Creative Writing Competition and it’s for kids aged 7-12. But don’t worry – if you’re 7 you don’t have to compete against 12-year-olds as there are three categories – 7-8 years; 9-10 years and 11-12 years.
It’s being held by Just Kidding Magazine in conjunction with Penguin Random House (they’re my fabulous publisher). There are three mentoring authors – Oliver Pommovanh, Tristan Bancks and me!

There are loads of great prizes for the winners in each category including:

  • Signed copies of their mentors’ books and a personalised congratulatory video from their mentor
  • The winning story from each category will be turned into a physical book for you to keep (ten copies per winner – so you can share them with family and friends)
  • Each winning story will be published in Just Kidding Magazine alongside an interview with the author…yep that’s you! You’ll be featured as a published author!
  • A Penguin Random House bumper book pack featuring some of this years’ best reads
  • A Penguin Random House book pack for your School Library.

This is one of the most amazing writing competitions I’ve ever seen for kids (I wish they’d had something like this when I was a child). In addition, there will be loads of tips and ideas from the mentors to help you get started. So, what are you waiting for – click here to head over to the website and see exactly what you need to do.

Hi Mrs Harvey,
I love writing and wish to be an author when I grow up like you. BTW, how much does the competition cost to enter? Just asking. I also love the new Alice Miranda in Scotland. It’s very captivating. Is it the real Loch Ness monster? Thank you for your time.

    Hi Caroline,

You’ll have to check the conditions to see if you can enter more than once. I’m afraid I don’t know the answer to that. Good luck!

    Hello,

I think fan fiction is okay but I am not sure about two authors. You need to read the conditions of entry that you will find on the Just Kidding website.

    Best of luck!

hello jacqueline I love writing but normally I write comics but any way I’m in the 9-10s and I’ve sent my story. It is called the unbelievable adventures of captain banana split and it has 560 words. When I grow up I want to be a famous author. When do the competition start sending messages about who’s the winner and stuff. P.s have you heard of the author r.l.stine. One of my favourite authors.

    Best wishes,

    Hi DJ,

Yes I have heard of RL Stine. But I hate to admit that I’ve never actually read one of his books. The Goosebumps series has been hugely popular for many years.

I enetered the competition! I had writing block and it took a long time, then I put ideas into a bowl and pulled them out blindfolded! I loved the topic I ended up having. I really hope you get to read it, Jacqueline! (Even though your not my age mentor)

Hi
My name’s Clea. I went to one of your writing workshops in July (it was great). I entered the contest and the website said the results would be posted early September. Just wondering if you knew when they would release it.

Hi Jacqueline,
Do you gave any idea when are the results going to be displayed? I have been checking on the website and it’s now past the due date (26.10.18 was the due date, currently it is November…) , but I still don’t see any results! So sad…
I’m fine if I don’t win, but I really want to know the results!!

    Hi Rifa,

I have given my decision to the magazine and I think they must be on the verge of the announcement. There were over a thousand entries – amazing! I’ll check with my publisher and see if I can get any updates. I had thought it would have been announced by now too :).

    Best wishes,

I really wish I knew how to enter. I already have a 4 chapter book. It’s 720 words which is too long to enter In the other story writing competition that In doing at my school. I had to cut so many things out of it already. I still have all of it saved on my computer though.
