August 3, 2017 by Jacqueline Harvey 48 Comments

Thanks to everyone who sent in a recipe or a picture for the July newsletter competition. Congratulations to all – our artists are up first and you might like to try the delicious recipes further down as well.

The first illustration is Francesca Compton-Halls by Clariza and the second is Mayor Silas Wiley by Adriana.

Lemonade Scones from Amy

Ingredients
325g self-raising flour
2/3 cup cold lemonade
2/3 cup thickened cream

Method

  1. Heat oven to 225 degrees Celsius (205 degrees for fan forced oven)
  2. Sift flour into a bowl
  3. Combine lemonade and cream a jug and mix until just combined
  4. Make a well in the centre of the flour and pour in the liquids
  5. Fold the ingredients together until they are just combined. Do not over mix or the scones will be too tough and heavy. The dough should be soft and sticky
  6. Place the dough on to a floured bench and gently shape into 2-3cm thick oval
  7. Dip your scone cutter in flour and cut out your scones and place them on to a lightly floured baking tray.
  8. Brush each scone with a little bit of milk and then place the scones in the oven and cook for 13-15 minutes
  9. Once scones are cooked remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving them – preferably warm with fresh jam and whipped cream

Blueberry and banana eggy bread from Amelie

Ingredients

  • 2 bananas, each halved and slice lengthways
  • 8 slices brioche bread
  • 100g blueberries
  • 4 tbsp clear honey
  • 4 large eggs, beaten
  • 150ml milk
  • Pinch cinnamon
  • 15g butter
  • 2 tbsp icing sugar

Method

  1. Arrange the slices of banana on 4 of the brioche slices and scatter the blueberries on top. Drizzle with honey and then place a slice of brioche on top.
  2. Place the eggs in a shallow dish with the milka nd cinnamon. The dish should be big enough to hold all the brioche sandwiches, so something like a roasting tin would be perfect. Place the brioche sandwiches in the egg mixture and leave for 5 minutes to soak. Turn over and repeat for the other side. Keep turning until each sandwich is soaked well and all the egg has been used up.
  3. Heat the โ€‹butter in a large frying pan and gently cook the brioche sandwiches for 3-4 minutes each side until golden brown. You might have to do this 2 at a time.
  4. Transfer to serving plates and serve while still warm, dusted with icing sugar.

Congratulations those pictures looked really good and recipes really yummy. Mrs Harvey I had a thought about when Alice- Miranda’s birthday is. If it’s in the Australian schooling system I think it is about the start of term 4 so some time in September. Because in Alice- Miranda on holiday she’s having a term holiday. And then in Alice-Miranda at sea it’s her second term holiday, and at the stat of Alice- Miranda shows the way it said Sloane started at the start of the term. And in number 5 Millie moved into Jacinta’s room while Alice-Miranda was away. But if it was in the British schooling system I wouldn’t be able to think of when her Birthday cause she had already had two breaks and she doesn’t have summer break till number 9 or the end of number 8. Sorry about all of this writing. Oh and will you come to Melbourne to release Alice-Miranda in Hollywood. Sorry again from Alyssa

    Hi Jacqueline Harvey,
is you new book Kensie and Max out yet cause I am totally exited to see what its all about I sure it will be GREAT!!
by the way those recipes look great!
whens your new clementine rose book coming out next I loved the book wedding wobbles cause I like had no idea that aunt violet was her grandmother and that’s actually pretty cool that her and lady Clarissa are actually related distantly. maybe you could write a Alice Miranda book about Italy I think that would be really interesting and cool! or you could do clementine rose in Italy!
I love to write heaps of books too I think I have written about three or four?

      Hi Hattie,

Goodness, I have just returned the first edit for ‘Breaking News’ (the first book in the Kensy and Max series), to my editor! There is still much to do, although I am so pleased and delighted with almost every aspect of the story, so far. I will reveal more when I am able to- the book will be released in March 2018.

There is so much happening in Clementine Rose’s world – interesting that Clemmie had worked out that Aunt Violet was her grandmother some time ago. The next book will be released mid 2018- I’m sure that it will be worth waiting for:).

Thank you for the suggestion- I can certainly picture Alice-Miranda and her friends in Italy. I’ll add that location to the many ideas swirling around in my head; you will have to keep reading, won’t you?

Best wishes and all the best with YOUR writing,

      Jacqueline

Omg Alice Miranda in Italy would be great…but I feel as though sheโ€™s already been there for some reason. Like idk France is similar in a way. So maybe she could go to Africa on a safari or to a wildlife reserve and they could help look after the animals and get taught stuff. and find out about smuggling or black market dealings to do with animals or to bora bora or somewhere like that to a marine wildlife reserve or where they check up on sick animals ? and they could all help with the dolphins and other creatures and find out about an illegal seal or whale hunting or capturing dolphins and selling them idk. But it sounds very exciting.!
Iโ€™m a big fan and it would mean a lot if you would reply

      Hi Chloe,

You need to sign up to my newsletter to be able to enter the competitions. It’s easy to do – just go to the home page on the website and sign up in the sun on the top right hand corner. Chloe is a lovely name and you never know – it might end up in one of my books one day. I’ve actually got a character in Alice-Miranda in Hollywood called Tyger Lombardi (but Tyger is a woman). I think it’s a very cool name too.

Thank you for your kind words.

      Best wishes,
      Jacqueline

Ooh and they can help our dolphin!)
