Kids WB – watch all the action from my interview and ‘how not to do high tea’ right here!

Hi Everyone,

Well, the segments have aired and I have now added the clips on the links below – ENJOY!

I had a ball filming at the Channel 9 studios in Melbourne with Crawf and Lauren – they are both fantastic – although Crawf was a bit of a handful when we had our afternoon tea! Here are some photos from the day we recorded – a little bit messy hey! Here are the links to the clips Interview with Lauren and Crawf and How not to do High Tea!

    Hi Denae,

Thanks for writing. My week has been busy! What about yours? My illustrator is a wonderful woman called Anne Yi – she’s terribly clever. Hope you’re having a great holiday. I’m not on holidays at the moment but I’m going to have a week off in Scotland later in the year and a trip to China too. It will be a mix of work and play.

    Hi Kaylin,

Perhaps you can borrow the ones you don’t have from the library or ask for them for presents for your birthday or Christmas. I loved getting books as presents (and still do!). Have a great weekend.

        Hi Kossie,
I’m so glad that you enjoy the books.
Did you know, some of the characteristics of Bonaparte came from my own horse I owed years ago called ‘Moo Moo’. She terribly naughty, ate everything in sight and could escape from any yard or box.
        Thanks for your message.

Hi Mrs Harvey
I love your books! And I absolutely cant wait until number #12
comes out! I have read almost every book of Alice-Miranda.
And I loved every bit of the ones that I read!
If its alright can I ask you some questions?
(I’m going to ask you some questions and if you don’t want to answer them you don’t have to.)
(#1) which Alice-Miranda book is your favourite?
(#2) who is your favourite character?
(#3) What is your favourite colour?
Thanks heaps can’t wait until you reply!

July 5, 2015 at 8:20 am

    Jacqueline Harvey

    Dear Roseale,

I don’t have a favourite book or a favourite character. There are just too many to love and in terms of the books I’d be really disappointed in myself if I thought that I wasn’t always improving and doing my best work. My favourite colours are blue and pink, although I like lots of colours too.

Have a great holiday – hope you’re doing something fun (like lots of reading!).

    Best wishes,

Hi Jacqueline
I’m up to date with the Alice-Miranda series and just had a few questions about it.
Firstly what country does Alice-Miranda live in? I thought it was Australia but when it said queen Georgina ruled the country i wasn’t sure.
Secondly, I live in Australia and your an Australian author so why in book 11 does it say gaol not jail. Just wondering
I love your work and never want you to stop writing.
Lots of love

I think Alice Miranda lives in England heres some reasons why-

      1. Queen Georgina, everyone knows that queens live in England!!!

      2. It says in Alice Miranda in paris that they went to paris and in bus/car it takes a little more than 6hr while England is a day away by plan from Australia

      3. Boarding schools in England are very common while in Australia a boarding school pops up once in a blue moon!

      4. Some of the phrases/words such as mummy or oh my goodness is something that i (as living in Aussie) would probably be the only one to say these things, whereas in England, this is fairly likely.

      Grace xxx 🙂

(also i forgot to add when they go on their cruise they pass Italy which is shorter to get to from England than Australia) 🙂

        Hi Grace,

You’re right about having a queen in England but did you know that Queen Elizabeth is our queen too 🙂 That’s right about Paris being much closer to England. There are quite a few boarding schools in Australia but you’re also right that there are a lot more in the UK. That said, I’ve taught in 2 boarding schools in New South Wales and one of them is a lot like Alice-Miranda’s school. I think the language is probably a bit more English too.

I’m very happy for you to make up your own mind.

        Best wishes,

    Jacqueline Harvey

    Hi Samantha,

I think Zoe answered your question too about which country Alice-Miranda is set in. I’m happy to let readers decide as I’ve never said that it’s Australia or England and although most kids tend to think it’s England, there are many who think it could be Australia too. You choose!

Your second question about the spelling of gaol is an interesting one. That spelling is actually the Australian and English spelling of the word where jail is the American spelling of the word. So that’s why it’s spelt that way. It’s interesting that in Australia we do tend to accept many more Americanisations of spelling these days than when I was at school. It’s not the other way around though – when my books have been published in America they change all the spelling to the American spellings.

Hope you’re having a wonderful holiday and thank you for your beautiful words of encouragement. I never want to stop writing either!

    Best wishes,
    Jacqueline

When we first meet Alice-Miranda, she’s 7 and a quarter but she gradually gets older and all her friends are quite a bit older than her (like 10 and 11). She doesn’t age very quickly.

I would love to audition for it.

Hi Ms Harvey,

I noticed a mistake when I read Alice-Miranda at Camp. In Alice Miranda takes the lead Millie gets dessert on her head but in Alice Miranda at Camp it says that Sloane gets dessert on her head. Is it a mistake?
Anyway I am really looking forward to reading Alice Miranda in the Alps. It sounds like a really good book!

Hi Jacqueline,

Catherine here, what a funny day you must have had with Lauren and Shane. Shane was needs to get his manners straight. I really loved Clementine and the Birthday Emergency, it was awesome i really felt sad for Clementine when Lavender was sick and when she had bad tummy pain. I wish i was there to give her a hug.

Questions:

Are you going to make a boy version of Alice-Miranda or Clementine Rose?

My friends and I were just wondering if Alice-Miranda is still 7 or if she like 11 or 12 years old?

From Catherine, Alice-Miranda and Jacqueline Harvey’s BIGGEST NUMBER ONE FAN IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD!

P.S. Love your story in the Stories for Girls!

    Hi Catherine,

Lauren and Shane were great and Shane is hilarious (I imagine he would have been a bit cheeky at school!). I’m so thrilled that you enjoyed the new book – I loved writing it.

Interesting that you ask about a boy version of the books – I’m not sure but I would like to do something more with the boys.

Alice-Miranda is now almost 9 but her friends are 11, 12 and 13.

Thanks for letting me know about the story in Stories for Girls too.

Hello Jacqueline,
I love reading your books but I have a few questions! I am very excited to hear what the answers are!
Q 1: How did you get into writing books?
Q 2: What is your favourite flavour ice-cream?
Q 3: Where have you travelled in the world?
Q 4: have you been to space?
sincerely Anonomous!

    Jacqueline Harvey

    Hi Anonymous Eliza,

    In answer to your questions:

    1. I got into writing books because I always loved to tell stories and I was a teacher who used to write a lot for my classes.
    2. My favourite ice cream flavour is probably a tie between macadamia but and I also love lemon sorbet and passionfruit sorbet.
    3. I have travelled to: New Zealand, Fiji, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, North America, England, Scotland, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland
    4. No, I haven’t been to space and I don’t really want to either 🙂

Hope that satisfies your curiosity for now.

    Best wishes,

Hi Jacqueline! I just wanted to say that you are an amazing author! I love your books so much and I have the whole series! One quick question: When will the next Alice-Miranda book be released? Thanks, and I hope you had fun on Kids WB!

July 24, 2015 at 3:54 pm

The next book, Alice-Miranda in the Alps will be out on the 1st of September. I’m working on the one after that at the moment, called Alice-Miranda To the Rescue and it will be out on the 1st February.

I’m so pleased that you love the books – some days writing is harder than others and knowing there are fans like you just waiting to see what happens next really helps me push through the difficult days 🙂

    Have a great weekend.

    Hi Micha,

Thanks for writing! I’m thrilled that you’re enjoying the books.

    In answer to your questions:
    1. Yes there is a good chance Caprice will somehow make an appearance in the Alps
    2. I am hoping to go to NZ in 2016
    3. AM in the Alps should be released the same time as Australia on the 1st September.

Happy reading and hope I get to see you soon.

Hi Jacqueline,
Just to tell you, me and my friends think that your books are so good.
They are the best, if they were made into a movie it would be even better.
And also I love Alice-Miranda’s personality she is so nice.

P.S can’t wait to read more

    Hi Adelyn,

What a lovely name you have! Alice-Miranda has been optioned as a television series and I believe that the production company is working on what they call pre-production. Hopefully one day it will be on TV but it’s tricky and you never know. I’d love to have a movie as well. I adore Alice-Miranda as she’s such a good friend.

Hope you enjoy the new book which will be out on the 1st September.

    Best wishes,

What are some of your hobbies?

    Hi Anonomous,

I love to play golf when I have time and have just joined a new club (and am hoping to play a lot more!). I like to travel, to eat out, to read. I used to ride horses but I don’t have much time for that anymore – although I wish I did.

    Hope that answers your question.

    Best wishes,
    Jacqueline

Hi Jacqueline
I have read 6 of your books and am hoping to read no. 13 soon. I love your books because a lot happens and everything is revealed at the end. I have a few questions for you:

How do you go onto Name Generator?

What was your childhood like?

Do you know any Alice-Mirandas?

Kind Regards,
Ivy

    Jacqueline Harvey

    Hi Ivy,

Just click on the Name Generator and it should take you there.

My childhood was pretty normal for an Aussie kid growing up in a small town. I had a horse, I rode my bike everywhere, played cricket in the backyard and paddock with the neighbour’s kids, went to school, swam in the pool almost every afternoon after school in summer, had a dog and a cat, two sisters, mum and dad. I worked hard at school and went to University.

I have met a girl whose sister is called Alice Miranda without the hyphen – but I know a few little girls who are a lot like her (although perhaps not quite so wealthy!).

    Best wishes,
    Jacqueline

Hi Ms Harvey,
I love your Alice Miranda books but I only have 5, to my disappointment. I got #12 for my birthday. I hope to read #13 soon. I have a few questions for you:
Where did you grow up?

When will the next book be out?

What places have you been to before?

You do not have to answer all the questions if you don’t want to.
Kind Regards,
Ivy

    Hi Ivy,

I grew up in Camden in south west Sydney, although when I was a girl it was a country town!
The next book is out on 1 February and it’s called Alice-Miranda To the Rescue.
I have visited quite a lot of places but I’d try to write a list:

    Australia
Every state and territory – the only capital city I haven’t visited is Darwin

England, Scotland, Wales, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Switzerland, China, Hong Kong, Japan, North America, New Zealand, Fiji. Maybe I’ve missed some too. I love travelling! I’ve visited lots of those places more than once and there are loads of places I still want to get to.

    Best wishes,
    Jacqueline

Hi, Jacquline!
I am doing an author study on you and your books Alice-Miranda. I am up to writing a character profile. Next is the author biography, so don’t mind if I am asking a few questions!

Character Profile
For my author study I have chosen Alice-Miranda for my character profile. This character is in all of the books I read. Alice-Miranda’s full name is: Alice-Miranda Highton-Smith-Kenington-Jones. She goes to a boarding school called Winchesterfeild Downsvale School for Proper Young Ladies.
Alice-Miranda is a very adventurous girl. She is also very kind and caring to others. She has dark brown bushy hair, freckles that cover her nose, pale skin and blushed cheeks.
Alice-Miranda in one part of the book said “Let’s go explore!” when she saw kids playing a game but her friend said “We better get back.” This proves that Alice-Miranda is very adventurous girl.

This is the Character profile.
Chloe (Chloe is my real name)

It was great Chloe – sorry – I thought I had written something about it but clearly I didn’t :). Well done!

    Hi Amy,

    In answer to your questions.

    1. I like vanilla bean or macadamia ice cream the best
    2. I have two sisters who are younger than me.
    3. My favourite movie – that’s tricky – probably Matilda, Denis the Menace, Home Alone, Up and The Sound of Music (I love kids’ movies better than most adult ones!).

    Best wishes,
    Jacqueline
