Last chance to nominate your favourite books in this year’s YABBA, KOALA and KROC awards!

REAL AWARDS – Australia’s Children’s Choice awards (YABBA, KOALA and KROC)

These awards mean so much to me as they are voted by kids – the people I write for! I’ve been fortunate to be on the REAL shortlist every year from 2012-2020 (except 2018). The only way to get on the list is for our readers to nominate and vote – so click the following links to make your choices but do it soon.
YABBA NOMINATING LINK Voting closes Wednesday 31 March so you need to get in quick!
KOALA NOMINATING LINK Voting closes this FRIDAY 26 MARCH so you need to get in even quicker!

Make sure that you vote for book titles too – not just the series.

A couple of weeks ago I was interviewed on the School Broadcasting Network and Funky Kids Radio, along with Andy Griffiths, Deborah Abela and Tristan Bancks about the REAL awards which form the shortlists for the annual children’s choice awards in Victoria (YABBA), NSW (KOALA) and the Northern Territory (KROC). Michelle Nye who is the Coordinator of the YABBA awards co-hosted the show with the lovely Reka and Ginger who are still at school. I love this network and the opportunities afforded to young people who are interested in a career in radio (I would have adored doing something like this when I was a kid).

You can catch the show with Andy Griffiths, Deb Abela, Tristan Bancks and me on the link here and don’t forget to vote for the REAL shortlist via the links below which then goes on to become the YABBA, KOALA and KROC award shortlists in Victoria, NSW and the Northern Territory.

And… BOOM nominated K&M 7 for Yabba. I am about to do Koala and I will ask my friends to nominate too!

    Hi Sanika,

I’m thrilled to hear that you love the Alice-Miranda series! The next book is called Alice-Miranda in Egypt and will be released on the 1st of June this year.

    Happy reading,

    Jacqueline 🙂

Hello I love love love your books.
Could u do one about alice miranda in India?
You r the BEST author EVER!
I love kensy and max and alice miranda and used to ADORE clementine rose!
      Go you!

      May 8, 2021 at 11:28 pm

Ms. Harvey,
I’ve got a few questions – do you mind?

In Alice-Miranda in New York, there is an uncanny link between Mr. O’Leary and Paddy O’Leary in Kensy and Max 2: Disappearing Act – are they the same person?

Have you linked (apart from the movie links in AM in the Outback) these series before?

Do you plan on doing a book where all three series merge?

When do you think your latest AM will come out at earliest?

From one of your most faithful readers,

April 5, 2021 at 12:59 pm

I like your ideas Abigail

April 8, 2021 at 8:58 pm

    Thanks, Ellie.
All three series do seem like their hinting a collab – I wonder if Jacqueline Harvey wanted to do that or just did it by accident?

    Hi Madeline,

Thank you so much, I’m thrilled to hear that you enjoy the Kensy and Max series so much that you have recommended them to others. 🙂

I am busy now writing and editing, so there are definitely more books to come!

    Happy reading,

    April 25, 2021 at 3:11 pm

Good idea Abigail! Ms Harvey, You should really do a book where all three series merge.
I have some questions too.
How many kensy and Max books are you planning to make?
In Clementine rose in the movie making book, the lady- Ms Spencer, is she related to Kensy and Max’s Family?
I would have voted for K and M but i am too late. Hope you win though!

    Hi Madeline,

I think it would be cool if the three series could merge one day – you never know what the future holds! 🙂

They are not the same people, just the same surname.

    Best wishes,

Where did you get the inspiration for Kensy and Max????

April 15, 2021 at 3:16 am

    Jacqueline Harvey

    Hi Alice,

I constantly am on the lookout for new plots/characters for my books, but Kensy and Max was inspired on a trip where I sat down at a table to eat at a place called the Morpeth Arms in London, we were given a pair of binoculars to ‘spy on the spys’ as MI6 was opposite where I was eating. I asked one of the staff whether they see much going on in the MI6 headquarters and after a discussion about how people are on the balcony, the lights go on and off but he had never seen anyone inside really got me thinking about whether the MI6 is just a cover location for spies and what if they secretly work in some underground very fancy office that nobody knows about, hence the creation of the school that Kensy and Max go to!

    Best wishes,

    Jacqueline 🙂

    April 25, 2021 at 3:29 pm

I know I come on this heaps but to me this is my favourite place and it feels like I’m in Kensy and Max heaven!

April 18, 2021 at 6:57 pm

I’m glad you agree Ellie! I wasn’t sure I wanted to admit that I come on this like three times a day!

April 19, 2021 at 6:14 pm

Back to school today! So glad!

April 20, 2021 at 9:46 am

Like, I’m Super sad about school. I have SOOOOO much homework

April 20, 2021 at 5:34 pm

We only have to write out a list of words and read for homework! Reading is easy!

April 20, 2021 at 6:47 pm

I am DREADING going back to school this term. I have a French teacher who doesn’t let us drink water or wear jumpers (even when the air con. Is on!!!!) i would LOVE to go to any of the schools in Jaqueline Harvey’s books!

    Jacqueline Harvey

    Hi Evie,

I hope you have had a good start back to term and hopefully, the weather has been warm and you’ve made sure to stay hydrated before your classes. 🙂

I would have loved to go to a school like Alice-Miranda’s, Clementine Rose’s and especially Kensy and Max’s (to learn how to be a spy) as well I think it would be lots of fun!

    Best wishes,

    April 25, 2021 at 3:03 pm

Stage 3 only have to read, do spelling and find out a wonder of the world.
Its super easy
although about a third of my class doesn’t do their homework

April 24, 2021 at 5:43 pm

We have to do like, so many hours of homework everyday. I try to keep in touch with my friends after school (via Zoom and emailing) but I ever have enough time with my activities and homework. Grade Five have to do three FULL ON tasks for Maths, English and Religion. The only things I’m good at are Writing, Art, History and Science. Math is a different story. I’m always in the Math extension group even though (fun fact) I HATE MATH.
My teacher say she loves my stories because their content includes a major amount of detail and imagination, whatever that means. Every time I write a story at school though, there’s usually a time limit of 40 minutes. I never really get past the complication during my short stories because I think over the top and run out of time.

The moral of this comment is,

I HATE HOMEWORK AND MATH (don’t forget the dreaded Math… :/)

April 25, 2021 at 8:17 pm

That must suck! I feel so sorry for you!

April 27, 2021 at 7:26 pm

That is for all of you too!

April 27, 2021 at 7:27 pm

For all of you that hate homework, WE WILL OVERCOME THIS!!!

April 29, 2021 at 5:28 pm

Are Sep and Sloane more involved with the story in AM 20?
Lots of love, Kayla

Hi Jacqueline!
First of all, I’m a really big fan. I started reading your books about two years ago, and I fell in love with them. I was just wondering if Alice-Miranda In Egypt would be the last of the series? I would be disappointed if it will be, but hopefully you would have time to write more amazing series!

    Hi Dora,

Thanks for your lovely message. I certainly don’t want to stop writing Alice-Miranda’s adventures but I will take a little break for a year or so as I have other projects I’m working on. Hopefully you might read Kensy and Max and my new books Willa and Woof at some stage.

    Best wishes,

I’m so sorry for annoying all of you, but could you read the slam poem I’ve written for my creative writing class and maybe give some feedback?

Part 2: Dominoes

I watch as my cousin arranges his dominoes on the table.
All standing upright in a long, perfect row of white.
He reaches out, using a single finger to push the first domino down.
It sways, before falling onto the one in front of it.
Before I can blink, the entire row has collapsed onto the table.
He lets out a gleeful laugh, like it’s the funniest thing in the world.

I am five years old again, bouncing in my mother’s lap,
As she reads to me books of love, laughter, life lessons.
One day, when reading Chrysanthemum, she paused.
“You might meet someone like this one day.” She whispered,
Gently tapping on the illustration of Victoria, the mean mouse
who loves to make Chrysanthemum feel bad about her name.
“And when you do, I want you to remember
That people like these aren’t worth your time.”
“What if I become one?” I’d asked.
“Hopefully you won’t.”
I never forgot her sad eyes, the tight grin as she spoke.

I often skip the bad parts in books
Rather be swept away in perfect fantasies
than grounded in reality.
But when I do, I remember my mother’s words.
And feel sick to my stomach as I read about one’s revenge plot on their friend,
“To make them learn their lesson.”
Believe me, if I could, I would protest.
“Don’t! When you mess with someone’s life,
You unfortunately can’t be that precise!”
Because whether we realize it or not,
life is like the snowball perched at the edge of an icy slope.
Like the pond whose murky waters ripple when a pebble is thrown into it.

All it takes is one small push for the entire row to fall.
And everything…
… affects everything.

It’s worth 75% of my grade ;-; so any feedback/constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated!! 🙂
