Love the new website!

May 19, 2014 by Jacqueline Harvey 56 Comments

I’ve just popped over to my old blog site to redirect traffic here to the new home of both my blog and that of Alice-Miranda and Clementine Rose.  I’m sure that it’s going to be much easier to have everything here in the one place and I hope that readers find that too.  I don’t know that I ever imagined when we launched Alice-Miranda At School just over four years ago that I’d ever have such a beautiful website, so thanks to all who have worked hard to make it happen.  I’m just learning my way around things at the moment and hoping not to mess up!

I’ve really enjoyed creating the first newsletter and if you haven’t signed up yet you can do it on the homepage of the website.

Sydney Writers’ Festival kicks off on Tuesday night and I’m looking forward to taking part in the Family Day next Sunday (from 10am) as well some of the evening celebrations and the Australian Book Industry Awards on Friday night.  It’s a huge thrill to have Alice-Miranda in Paris shortlisted and it should be a great night.  The following week I’m off to Adelaide and Mt Gambier and will be listing all of the public events over the coming days.  I can’t wait to get back to the city of churches where I spent a month on a May Gibbs Creative Time Fellowship last year.  I hope to have some time to catch up with friends while we’re there but I suspect the schedule is jam packed.  Before I go, I’m planning to finish off Clementine Rose’s eighth adventure which at the moment is tentatively called Clementine Rose and the Ballet Break In (I think it’s pretty catchy but suggestions are most welcome!)  Hope you enjoy the new website!Sydney Writers' Festival Family Day

    Hi Jacqueline Harvey,
I am the No.1 fan of yours. Your books are awesome.
I would LOVE it if you could do a festival, book signing or show in Dandenong because I unfortunately cannot come all the way to Sydney.

      Dear Maheen,

Thank you for your comments. I am so glad that you are enjoying my new website. I am really excited about it and all the fun activities and information that we will be able to share. Keep an eye on the Events section of the website, as I am planning a shopping centre tour in Melbourne during the September school holidays! Perhaps, if your Mum or Dad are happy to bring you to Melbourne, you may be able to come along?

I am glad that you are enjoying my writing – I love what I do but it is wonderful to hear that the people who read my books enjoy them too. My love of reading started at a young age- with authors such as Enid Blyton, whose stories were full of great characters and adventure. Hope that Alice Miranda’s adventures inspire you, too!

      Keep up the reading!

      Best wishes

        Dear Jacqueline Harvey,
I love your books especially Alice-Miranda.
I just have a few questions,
        * How long does it take to write a Alice-Miranda Book?
        * What was your first children’s book?
        * Why do you like writing children’s books?

          Hi Alice,

Thanks for your message. Hope you’re doing well in this strange time! In answer to your questions – the first Alice-Miranda book took me about two and a half years to write but that was because I had no contracts and didn’t even know if anyone would want to publish it. Now it takes me about 3 months but then there is the editing as well. The first children’s book I wrote was called Oliver’s Secret but it was never published. I love writing children’s books because I get to spend a lot of time in my imagination – and I still get to visit schools and meet the readers too. It’s the best job in the world!

          Best wishes,
          Jacqueline

      Hi Emilia,

You could have so much fun on the website, with the Name Generator, under the Fun Stuff tab! You can create all manner of hyphenated names. Sadly, my wonderful publishers at Penguin Random House, had not developed the Name Generator when that irrepressible little girl with chocolate curls came into my life. The name comes from my imagination- originally she was going to be Miranda Anna, Miranda Kate or Miranda Alice. I wrote these names on my white board- rubbed out the first two names and then went to answer a phone call. When I came back to my whiteboard- I realised that that little girl had to be “Alice-Miranda”!

Someone very wise told me that a good book is a book that you, yourself, would like to read.

      Best wishes,

      Jacqueline

I have lots of ideas swirling around in my head for future stories- you will just have to keep reading to see if Queen Georgiana’s Awards Scheme features in the friends’ lives again:). I haven’t thought about Nina’s grandfather’s renovation- another reason to keep reading.

Dear Jacqueline, I absolutely love all of your Alice-Miranda books, they are so fun and interesting to read. Since you like basing them in foreign countries, I was wondering if for a future book, you would consider it taking place in my home country, India! There’s so much awesome food and culture and music that I think would make a great book. You could say that Winchesterfield and Fayle were teaming up to do a World Fair, and students could form groups and choose where to base their project on, so Alice-Miranda, Millie, Jacinta, Sloane, Caprice, Lucas, Sep all formed a group and traveled to India for their project. If you did choose this idea, I hope that you would include a lot of Jacinta and Lucas stuff because I love that! Just an idea, and I hope you have a year!

    Sincerely,
    Shravya

      Hi Shravya,

That’s a great idea – I would love to visit India but sadly it won’t be this year with the Corona crisis. However, I could write a story if I did lots of research and talked to people who have been there. Never say never. Lucas and Jacinta are pretty cute aren’t they!

Yes! I love your idea Shravya! I’m from India too, in case you can’t tell from my name 😉
But I do suspect that if it were to be an actual book, Alice-Miranda, Millie, Jacinta, Sloane, Lucas, Sep, and Chessie would’ve formed a group and by some turn of events Caprice joins them too (because I can definitely say that Millie would NOT want Caprice in their group)
I love Lucinta, they’re so adorable (Jacinta’s love life is about a million times better than mine 🙂 ) and I ship them really hard- actually, they’re my fictional OTP (one true pairing!)
The project idea sounds great but maybe the Winchesterfield-Downsforvale-Fayle choir went to India to perform at some music festival for Diwali? Especially because the festivities there are pretty huge.
I hope you don’t plan to stop writing Alice-Miranda books anytime soon, Jacqueline!

Hi, I love all the Alice-Miranda books, but my favourite so far is Alice-Miranda in the Outback. I live in Australia, but I had an idea for an upcoming book. Alice-Miranda at the Olympics. It would be about how they were going to the gymnastics for a surprise birthday for Jacinta, but all goes pear-shaped. There would be people who were out to sabotage the Olympics. But then Alice-Miranda and her friends are there to save the day!
I love all your Alice-Miranda books!
