Melbourne, here we come!
Hi Everyone,
Hope you’ve all had a great week. I’ve been busy working on Alice-Miranda to the Rescue which will be the 13th book in the series. It’s due out in February next year and so far I’ve written just over 10,000 words (it will be about 60,000 by the time I’ve finished the draft). I’m having lots of fun creating new characters and boy, there are some baddies! Myrtle Parker and her husband Reginald are back and I’m loving spending time with them. Alice-Miranda and her friends are busy at school and there is a special friend who has come to spend a term at Winchesterfield-Downsfordvale – I wonder if you can guess who it is? I won’t tell you too much about the story yet as it’s still in the early stages. I’m now editing Alice-Miranda in the Alps too which is due out on the 1st of September. It’s a rollicking adventure in the Swiss Alps with loads of mysteries for Alice-Miranda and her friends to solve.
Next week I’m off to Melbourne and I can’t wait. I will be visiting schools and bookshops and hosting our fabulous high tea event on Sunday 21 June where we are going to launch Clementine Rose and the Birthday Emergency. I can’t wait to see everyone all dressed up! I’ve heard the food is going to be amazing too. I’ll have to start thinking about what to pack – I really don’t like packing, although after so much travelling I’ve certainly gotten a lot better at it these days.

Hi Alice,
Happy birthday for yesterday! I hope you had a wonderful day. Alice-Miranda in China will come out on the 1st September but sometimes they are available in the shops a few days earlier. It is number 14. I’ve just started number 15 and it doesn’t have a title yet. It’s still in the planning phase but I’ve written about 3,000 words of the opening. I still have lots of editing to do on Alice-Miranda in China. I printed it off this morning and have skim read it but need to get my teeth into it properly tomorrow.
I don’t have Snapchat. I have Twitter and Instagram and a Facebook fan page and the blog and the website and that’s a lot to think about without anything else. I’m not sure how many Alice-Miranda books I will make altogether – at the moment there are 16 signed up but I think we will make more.
Are you a member of my newsletter group? You just need to sign up on the website and then you get the newsletter and there are really cool competitions with great prizes each month. In fact the competition this month is about questions you’d like to ask me.

I’m so pleased that my books are having a positive impact on you. It’s hard growing up and I hear you about there being tough times. They are different for everyone but having a friend like Alice-Miranda can really help. When I was a child, I used to talk to my horse a lot when things weren’t going so well and apparently when I was very small I had an imaginary friend called Heaven that I used to consult all the time! I also buried myself in books. It sounds like you have some big dreams and I would say to you – don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t achieve them. I’m living proof that you can change your life and achieve your goals. I always wanted to be a teacher and a writer. Being a teacher was the easy part but being a writer was much harder. Although I got knocked down a lot of times I didn’t give up and look how things have turned out. I pinch myself to think that I get to meet kids all over the world and that they read my books!

I’ve lately had my head in Clemmie’s adventures because I got a new book pack, and it has three Clementine Rose books; #4,#5 and#6. I went totally CRAZY when I checked your website for a reply to my message! And the wedding was awesome! I was flower girl, with my one-year-old cousin Chloe, who didn’t want to walk down the aisle. The funniest part was when Chloe took my arm and led me over to her dad, (who was one of the groomsmen) just as my soon-to-be aunt and uncle reached the priest, and everyone was staring at us like we were a newly discovered species; odd and unpredictable. Chloe also took me onto the stage; front and centre, next to the priest, until her mum called her down……. and that was the little adventure we had at the wedding. What’s the new Clementine Rose book? I love your questions! They’re fantastic. So – maybe I will set a book in Hollywood at some point. The idea of AM and her friends being in a movie is very cool and going to the premiere would be awesome. In Alice-Miranda in the Alps there are some really cute moments with Jacinta and Lucas (who I love too!). Sorry, Caprice is here to stay for a while – she is a piece of work and that’s what makes her a great character to have around. I love that you’re like Jacinta – that’s adorable that you identify with her so much. I will contine writing the books for a while yet – there are 14 under contract but I imagine there will be even more than that. I love Alice-Miranda and her friends – they are so much fun to spend time with.
I can’t tell you where Alice-Miranda is living as I prefer readers to decide for themselves. Some think it’s England and others think it’s Australia and I’ve never actually said.

I think it would be a bit strange if I added a character named after myself in the stories. Thanks for thinking of me though. I’m not sure what’s happening with the television series – these things take time but I am hoping that it’s all still chugging along. That’s great that Alice-Miranda at Camp reminded you of the book. I have been on so many school camps I used a lot of my own experiences. It would be lovely to visit Sale one day. I’ve been there once, a long time ago before I started writing Alice-Miranda. I love all of your books from first to last. If you were to do Alice Miranda In Hong Kong I have name for a boy, Banji. I hope one day that you will do an Alice Miranda In Sydney, or Australia, or the outback. If you did do one of them I’ve got an idea for Alice Miranda In Sydney and Alice Miranda In The Outback. If they went to Sydney it could be like this. “It’s New Years Eve and Alice Miranda and her friends are staying the week in Sydney to see the amazing fireworks display, but someone is setting off illegal fireworks and someone else is stealing things from the Opera House. Can Alice Miranda and her friends find out who it is before someone gets hurt and the Opera House becomes bare?” For the outback someone could be stilling pieces of the Uluru.

There will be quite a few new characters in the next Alice-Miranda book. There’s a girl called Coco Wong and her cousin Sunny. There’s a funny lady called Rou Deng and a nasty girl called Felicity Fang. There are lots more but you’ll have to wait to read it when it comes out. I am still working on finishing it.

I’m in grade 10 and I still looooooove reading your books.
I’ve read all your books leading up to Alice-Miranda in the Alps, which I’ve just finished reading, and have AM to the Rescue on hold, but there’s been a massive waiting list.
I’m currently number 3, after having waited weeks beginning as number 10 on the list.
I live on the Gold Coast and can’t wait for more of your books.
I especially love Jacinta and Lucas. They are so cute together! (and it’s so exciting how Jacinta’s finally gotten into her teens!)

Hi Rebekah,
My advice is to find some competitions to enter as they will help you to focus on a particular project and you really have to finish the story in order to enter. It sounds like you’re a great English student (I loved English at school too). I think doing short exercises such as writing descriptions or sections of dialogue are also good just to get you thinking and writing. I have some writing tips on my website under the teachers section.
All the best with your writing – I never imagined that my life would go in this direction and I have to say it’s amazing to be able to spend time writing and travelling to meet the readers.

I visited the GC for the Somerset Festival earlier this year – it’s always fun to come up there. I’m currently writing Alice-Miranda in China and I have an idea for the next book but I think it might be set back at her home and around the village as we have only ever had one there before. I’ll certainly think about setting one in Australia in the future.

I have just finished Alice-Miranda in China and cannot wait for Alice-Miranda holds the key to come out. I really loved how Jacinta and Lucas’s Crush/friendship was a bigger part of the story than it has been in previous Books. You are truly an amazing writer and it is really hard waiting for each new book to ome out. Alice-Miranda has inspired me to be much better behaved and I even adopted her upbeat attitude which has helped me make lots of new friends! Oh I was just wondering whether lawrence is going to be fat in the next books. It was quite funny picturing him as a chubby hobo but in the end I missed having the movie star Ridley portrayed in the book. Cant wait for the next AM book.

I loved the little development in Jacinta and Lucas’s friendship too. They are not really in Alice-Miranda Holds the Key very much at all but they will be back in a big way in Book 16 which is going to be set in Hollywood! Lawrence is going to be back to his handsome self in that book (Charlotte and the twins are in Holds the Key but Lawrence is not). In Holds the Key there are some fabulous new characters and lots of excitement so don’t despair about Lucas and Jacinta not playing a part. There’s a new girl called Chessie who I adore and an abominable creature called Madagascar (who I can’t wait to bring back in another story already!). I’ve given you way more teasers than anywhere else I just realised.

I love your books so much I can’t put them down. I’ve read your books at least 10 times but I always miss something and the next time I read one it makes much more sense.
I’ve even made our teacher read the first book to the class. She really enjoys it and the class does too. The boys complain when Mrs Watkins says she’s going to read to us but I know they secretly want Mrs Watkins to start already!!
I really like how you have different sides to the story and at the end they all mix together.
I was thinking there should be an Alice-Miranda in Egypt or an Alice-Miranda when she goes to the North Pole or Antarctica.

I love that you read and re-read the books and pick up more things the second time – that’s fantastic and thank you for getting your teacher to read the books. That’s brilliant. I’m actually making a speech today about books for girls and books for boys (there aren’t any – there are just books) and one of the difficulties I face it that because my main characters are often girls, boys won’t pick up the book – and yet when they do read them they enjoy them. Huge thanks to your teacher for being proactive!
I’d love to do AM in Egypt – that’s definitely in my bucket list of ideas.

I am Sahansa, 10 years old, Grade 5. You are the best author ever! I love the Alice Miranda books so much I can’t think of anything else to read. I dressed up as Alice Miranda Keeps the Beat for 2022 Book Week, and our class did a PowerPoint about a book character of their choice last term. Lot’s of people chose Tom Gates by Liz Pichon, but I did Alice Miranda. I even made a slide about you.
I have read Alice Miranda books 1-19, and now I’m about to read Alice Miranda in Egypt. The only problem is I can’t get it from the Library because it’s not there, so we have to buy it. At least I can have the book in my bedroom I can stare at all day. Will there be a book 21? My favouriote book is Alice Miranda in the Alps.
