Singapore and a sneak peek of Alice-Miranda at the Palace!

Hello Friends,

I must apologise that I haven’t blogged for quite a while as I’ve been very busy with my best grown up friend Jacqueline Harvey working on our next adventure, Alice-Miranda at the Palace.  My friends and I had the most amazing time at Aunty Gee’s beautiful palace called Evesbury.  I thought we were only going for the weekend but things changed and we got to stay for a whole week.  There were a few strange things going on but  I don’t want to give too much away just yet.  I can give you a sneak peek of the cover though.  I love the dress I got to wear to the ball.

Alice-Miranda At the Palace

Anyway, now we’re in Singapore visiting lots of schools here and doing some other events too.  It’s really hot and steamy and everything is green and lush.  Singapore has an amazing shopping area called Orchard Road and the shops stay open very late every night.  On Wednesday when we arrived it was Deepavali, a traditional Hindu celebration and a public holiday.  There’s an area called Little India which looks so pretty at the moment with thousands of twinkling lights.

Anyway, I’m sure that Jacqueline Harvey will blog all about the visit here very soon.  I’m looking forward to making lots of new friends and having some great adventures.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Lots of love,

Alice-Miranda xx

    Hi Danielle,

I’m so pleased that you’re excited about the new book. Where do you go to school? Perhaps your librarian can get in touch with my publicist and we can arrange a visit next year. I love visiting schools and meeting everyone. Have a great Sunday.

Hi Miss Harvey

My name is Dharshna baskar, I live in New Zealand. It is great for me to finally type to you!
I have started reading your books when I was 8yrs old and from then I knew you were my
favourite author. I first found out about your books when my teacher give us new books
for a book review ( we had to be in pairs and had different books.) My friend Sophia and I
read your 7th book Alice Miranda in Paris and it started from there.

Anyway I am up to your 8th book and I can’t wait until your new book, the cover is great!
Just a question when will the new book come out?

Yours
Dharshna Baskar!

    Dear Dharshna,

Thank you for your lovely message. Have you read all of the first 8 books? I’m not sure if you know that number 9 and 10 are out now too. And of course soon number 11 will be out – on 1 February 2015. I’d better start thinking about the 12th one!!

I’m so glad you like the cover for At The Palace. I think it’s lovely. Did you know I was in New Zealand on tour in September and visited schools in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch and some smaller towns too. I love NZ – it’s a great place. I’m hoping to come back again next year or the year after.

    Have a wonderful week.

    Best wishes,

I did hear about you coming to Auckland but sadly didn’t get to meet you ):
Do you mind telling me what schools you went to in Auckland?
I go to Epsom Normal Primary School in Auckland!
Its really hard to find your books here because everyone buys them!
I am hoping to get the hole series for my birthday next year!
I love NZ as well I am born here!

If you come next year we maybe can see each other?
      It would be nice!

Hi Jacqueline!,
I love you’re books, and the front cover for Alice-Miranda at the Palace looks amazing!
I was just wondering, does Alice-Miranda have a middle name, or have you let it up to the readers to decide?
Thanks a lot,
Rachael

    Hi Rachael,

Alice-Miranda doesn’t have a middle name but I’m sure that if you put her name into the name generator she’d get a great one! Glad you like the new cover – I think it’s lovely too.

I Love the look of the cover!! When I grow up and get a job I would love to be a teacher too. Maybe even at a boarding school because you make it sound so fun in the trailer for the first book. How many Alice-Miranda books are you going to write or are you going to just keep writing for as long as the story will let you? I love all your books and can’t wait to read Alice-Miranda at the Palace. I am a Girl Guide and am hoping to go on a big Guide camp next year that goes for a week. I really want to go because it will be just like Alice-Miranda on camp. I wish that I could go to Winchesterfield-Downsfordvale Academy for Proper Young Ladies. It sounds like an awesome school with heaps of great teachers, students and activities. Please let me know if you ever do open Winchesterfield-Downsfordvale Academy for Proper Young Ladies as I will be the first to enrol either as a teacher or a student. Have you ever thought of making the books into movies? I know that not every book is a movie and that some authors may not like their books turned into a movie, but I still would love to see the movies if you ever did make them. I would love to (when I am older) to be able to write as magnificent stories as you do that make so many people happy and can take them to a different place away from all their troubles and worries. I am going to high school next year and I still love reading Alice-Miranda and even for me they still seem age appropriate, but have you ever considered writing older children’s novels wether or not they are like Alice-Miranda?
Thankyou so much for being such and amazing author.
Love From Millie

    Jacqueline Harvey

    Hi Millie,

Thanks for your amazing comment. It is wonderful to hear from the readers and I don’t think you should stop reading the books just because you go to high school. Some of my biggest fans are girls who started reading the books when they were in Grade 5 or 6 when they first came out and now they’re in Year 9 and 10 and even older! I love that they still enjoy the stories. I’ve signed a contract for Alice-Miranda to be made into a television series and I know they are working on episode scripts at the moment. It’s very exciting and I hope it turns out as well as I think it will.

Girl Guide camp sounds like lots of fun – I just hope you don’t meet any girls like Caprice! I’m going to keep writing the series for a while yet. I’m contracted to write at least 14 Alice-Miranda books and 13 Clementine Rose books so that will keep me busy into the next few years. Never say never about writing for older children too – I just need to have more than 24 hours in every day 🙂

I’ll be sure to let you know if I ever open a school like WD! It would be wonderful wouldn’t it 🙂

It’s so lovely to hear from you Millie and I hope I get to meet you one day (if I haven’t already!) Please let me know what area you live in and hopefully I’ll be doing a signing near you soon.

    Best wishes,
    Jacqueline

      Dear Jacqueline,
I did meet you last year in Adelaide at Dymocks. You signed Alice-Miranda in New York “For Millie, Hi lovely to meet you! Best wishes! and Alice-Miranda shows the way “For Millie, may life be full of wonderful adventures!. I still read the comments!!
The TV series sounds great but will it be real life or cartoon?
I know this may sound silly that I don’t know but, which country is Alice-Miranda from?
Hopefully I don’t meet a Caprice, but if I do I will know what to do and I will just have to kill her with kindness.
I know you must already be super busy but I do love your books and a older series would be amazing. But please continue to write Alice-Miranda forever!! They are one of my very favourite series!! 🙂
Do you illustrate your own books? I think you do because the stories for 5 year olds and Clementine Rose all have the same illustration style.
      Love From Millie Xx
P.S Thankyou so much for replying.

        Jacqueline Harvey

        Hi Millie,

Thanks for reminding me. I’m afraid that I meet so many children these days and it’s hard to remember everyone’s names without a picture to go with them 🙂 The television series as far as I know will be real live kids. I’ve never said which country Alice-Miranda comes from. I sort of want the readers to make up their own mind.

I don’t do the illustrations – I’m not that clever! A wonderful woman called Anne Yi does them and she is amazing! She is an animator by profession and she and I never met each other until the 10th book. Not that we didn’t want to – we were just very busy and could never get the schedules to match up. Now we see each other a couple of times a year at least. Anne has just made beautiful Christmas cards to download. Are you a member of the newsletter group because I posted about them on there this month.

        Have a great week.

        Best wishes,
        Jacqueline

          Dear Jacqueline,
I think that it I great that the movie will be real people as it makes it easier to relate to.
That is interesting that you don’t have a country, but doesn’t make it hard for you as you cant use certain countries in case someone thinks that she already lives there?
I am a member of your newsletter and I have already downloaded all of the drawings so far.
Is there any other merchandise for Alice-Miranda apart from the diaries (which I have already purchased for extra planning for next year)!! For a school project I once made Alice-Miranda Swap cards for each book, so with different characters for different stories.
Well, Anne Yi certainly does a good job of all the illustrations! 🙂 So does she do them for all of your books?
Thankyou so much for replying to my messages as it makes me feel some what connected to you!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Hi Sadie,

I would love to visit your school when I’m next in Melbourne. It’s likely to be sometime in Term one next year. At the moment I’m in Glasgow in Scotland about to start a big tour of the UK. Have you read all of the books or just the first one? I would love to know what it is that you love about Alice-Miranda and her stories. It’s so important to me to hear what the readers really think.

Will do my best to come to your school but also watch the events page on the website for public events too.

Of course I remember you and your gorgeous little friend! I love finding out which books people like best so thank you for that. You know, I’m always really happy with the book if the ending makes me cry or sigh or just feel all warm and fuzzy so the fact that you cried happy tears is wonderful.

Hope you’re having a great term and I will see you next time I’m in Melbourne.

Yes, my school is in Launceston, and I really hope that you can come!

Mrs Brewster- the organiser- read an article about you in the newspaper and she thought it would be lovely if you could come and visit our school.

I really didn’t know that you lived in Sydney- I thought you lived in England.

      Thank you so much!

P.S. Sorry about the small error in my other post- home instead of hope.

P.P.S Hi Alice-Miranda and Clementine Rose! You are both very sweet and I love your adventurous personalities. Alice-Miranda, you are the same age as me, and I would love to be friends with you! You must enjoy having lots of adventures, guys.

Dear Alice-Miranda,

I think you look absolutely stunning in your gown on the front cover of your new book! You must of had fun at the palace. Do you enjoy writing the books as much as you do having the adventures?

Do you think Caprice is absolutely awful? Why were you so nice to her? She made me so annoyed as I read the book. The worst thing she did was pretend Millie pushed her into the pool. She was so rude!

Have a wonderful adventure!

Lots of love,
Jasmine

Hi Jaquline
I have only started reading your books this year. I got the books from 1-10 for my ninth birthday and I love them. I have just finished reading the 8th book and I have already started to read Alice-Miranda In Japan. I can’t really decide which book is my favourite because I love them all. I can tell that the 11th book is going to be exciting just by looking at the cover. I hope you write way more than 14 books of Alice-Miranda because I would really miss reading about Alice-Miranda if you only wrote 14 books. If you are ever in Adelaide please come and visit Woodcroft Primary School.

Yours,
Jessica.

I’m currently working on the last page proof editing for Alice-Miranda at the Palace and it’s a really fun story. I will be in Adelaide again next year so hopefully I will get to visit your school.

    Hi Astrid,

Television takes a long time so I really don’t know the answers to any of those questions as the production company are still working on the episode scripts. I will certainly post any news as I have it. I’m really excited about it too.

Dear Ms Harvey

I absolutely love the Alice Miranda books! I have got the whole series I can’t wait till book 11 comes out! I have started writing letters to you I remember Alice Miranda saying it is so much nicer to get something in the post. When are you coming to Canberra I would love to meet you?! Can you come to my school ? I might get in touch with my librarian.

    Hi Isabel,

Thanks for your lovely message. I’m so pleased that you enjoy the books. I’ve just literally last week signed off on Alice-Miranda at the Palace which will be out before you know it! I do adore receiving letters – you might want to enter the newsletter competition for December which involves sending Alice-Miranda a postcard! Hopefully I will receive your letter soon (I’m currently away in the UK but I have someone at home collecting the post for me).

Where do you go to school in Canberra? I toured there in August last year but hopefully will get down again sometime in 2015.

    Have a great week.

Hi Jacqueline!

I adore your books! I really do! Albeit, my father really thinks I should move on to older books considering I’m nearly 14, and I do love to read other books, however, this is a series that I refuse to abandon near the end: It’s my childish refresher after reading something slightly darker…

I was very bouncy after hearing about the 11th book in the series, and, considering I’ve done my research right, I believe you have a contract for 13 books produced in six month intervals, right? It was an extremely pleasant surprise to find out that the 11th was going to be published after only three and a few months.

Anyway, I fully support you throughout your writing and although it saddens me that this wonderful series is soon to end, I accept it and promise to support you forever and always

Lots of Love
Lucy xx

P.S. I’m a bit of Jacinta/Lucas fan…Shhhhh!

    Hi Lucy,

Well I’m thrilled that you still enjoy Alice-Miranda’s adventures and you know, some of my most ardent fans are even older than you! It sounds like you find them a bit of a ‘comfort read’. I’ve actually got contracts for 14 Alice-Miranda books and I’m not sure if we’ll stop there – so don’t feel sad – if the readers still want more I’m happy to keep going. I love writing these books. I think maybe there should be an upcoming school dance (or something similar) so I can explore the Jacinta/Lucas relationship – but they do have a lot of fun at the palace too.

Thanks for writing and let me know what you think of AM at the Palace when you get to read it (it’s out Feb 2015).

Have a wonderful week – we’re staying in the Peak District in England at the moment – you can read about it on the blog.

      Hi Jacqueline!

Thank you so much for replying! It’s great to know that you’re one of those readers that doesn’t mind talking to their fans 🙂 Thank you for correcting me, and I think it’s awesome that you might continue on! I love these books and I guarantee that I will adore AM in the Palace! Comfort read sounds right as well….hmmm…

Well, I happily await any of your new books! I would ask you to visit my school but it isn’t very civil… Considering my friend’s hair was set on fire by someone….ouch….

Oh! What’s happening with Charlotte and the twins? Will they be here at the palace or will Charlotte still be pregnant? Ooooh! I’m bursting to know!

      Lots of Love

        Hi Lucy,

The twins are definitely going to be at the palace and wait until you see how gorgeous Lucas is with them! Their names are Marcus and Imogen and they are adorable and very new. All schools have their problems – even the ones that look perfect! I went to school with some of the naughtiest boys in Australia I think – two of them set our classroom on fire once so even worse than your friend’s hair (providing they put her hair out fast that is). I hope she was ok – sounds traumatic.

Good to see you’ve made a friend on the blog.

        Best wishes,

          Hi Jacqueline!

          Thanks again for replying!

Wow! That’s awesome! I can’t wait! I can imagine Lucas being adorable with them but I can also imagine Alice-Miranda being very excitable around them! I really can’t wait! Marcus and Imogen hmm? *looks up slightly* You know, I always kind of thought in my head from AM in Paris that the twins would be girls that looked exactly like Alice-Miranda and Charlotte 🙂 But a boy and a girl sounds awesome. *sits in corner* I…cannot….wait…

My friend is very much okay, she was laughing about it afterwards. It was indeed put out quickly however the boy who did it is suspended. Oh! I’m Australian too ^_^ I go to school in Perth.

Thanks! It’s awesome to have blog friends!

Hi Jaqueline!
I am I huge fan of Alice-Miranda and I love Clementine Rose as well. Even though I’m in Year 8 now, I I’m not going to let that stop me from reading the best books since Enid Blyton and Beatrix Potter! <3 I'm just missing 5,6, 9 and 10 but I have a book voucher that is crying out to be used and I'm definitely putting it to use to get an Alice Miranda book. It seems my little sister is thinking of getting one of the books for me for Christmas, so hopefully i will have the full collection! I love the diaries but every time I get a new diary, I never use it so, it might go to waste. The thing is every time I catch to the series and have them all, you've written two more new books! I hope you don't slow down any time soon 🙂

Love Caitlin
p.s. Are you doing any more morning teas/meet and greets/book signings and if you are, please, please, please come to Melbourne. Thank you ever so much 🙂 xo

I love that you’re still reading the books! Your message made me so happy. I won’t be stopping anytime soon – I’ve signed up to write 14 Alice-Miranda books and 13 Clementine Rose’s. I’ll be back in Melbourne at least twice in 2015 and will likely be working with the Tea Salon in The Emporium where we had some events this year. Have a wonderful Christmas and hope to see you in 2015.

Hi Jacqueline,
Singapore sounds great so glad Alice-Miranda at the palace is finally coming out can you clarify is it the 1st or the 2nd of February. As I have looked online and websites give me varieties of different information about the release. I love Alice-Miranda it’s such an amazing series one of the best I’ve ever read. Who’s your favourite author apart from yourself obviously you must have so much fun writing these stories. I would love to see Alice-Miranda in Hollywood or Australia would be great too. Can’t wait to hear about all the
trouble Caprice gets up to in the next book it will be great. I know Alice-Miranda at the palace is going to be amazing and I’m so excited for. Are you coming to Perth soon because I would love to meet you one day. Thank you so much and I wish you the best wishes in the next 3 Alice-Miranda books to come. I am very excited for you to be sharing these wonderful tales all of the world
Thank you so much for these books they mean a lot to me
Hope you get this please reply

    Hi Charlie,

Apologies that it’s taken me a while to get back to you. I was in England on tour until a couple of days ago and have just arrived home (to lots of unpacking and about 10 loads of washing!). Have you managed to get a copy of the new book yet? I do hope that I’ll be in Perth again later this year but I will make sure that any tour details are on the website. Caprice is such a meanie isn’t she? She’s fun to write! I’d love to know what you think of the story once you’ve read it.

Hi Jaqueline!
I’m probably one of the older girls who reads your books- I’m 14! I really enjoy the way you write the Alice-Miranda books and I hope to be a children’s author when I grow up (I’m not a big fan of the darker stories teens like to read these days.) I’m looking forward to getting the new book. I met you in Perth and you showed us the cover ideas- I’m glad you decided to use the blue dress! I’m going to France next month, so I’m going to read the new book on the long plane flights (if I can wait that long!)

    Hi Kiralee,

How wonderful that you’re off to France. If you go to Paris I’m sure you’ll recognise some of the places from Alice-Miranda In Paris. You’re not alone being an ‘older’ reader of Alice-Miranda. There are quite a few older girls who are still very much into the books and I love that! I too am not a big fan of the very dark teenage fiction. I’m glad that you liked the blue dress – I think it looks gorgeous especially against the red. Have a brilliant time away and thanks for your lovely email.

Hi Jacqueline!

I positively fell in love with the Alice Miranda series in 5th grade!-thanks to my friend who kinda reminds me of Alice Miranda as she has “cascading chocolate curls” and a bubbly personality-not even kidding!
I was hoping you’d eventually make a movie/show or some sort of live action/animation your books are just to good not too! I suppose they’ll be some more exciting story lines!
I can’t wait till book 12 comes out! I have read, re (times 3) read the whole series- I love Alice-Miranda in New York #5
I always imagined Alice-Miranda in a country similar to England-hence the names of some of the places-Winchesterfield Downsfordvale but I like the idea you let us readers decide its MUCH easier to imagine the places! I love the characters you conjure up! In the first book Mr. Grump reminds me of a man in one of Shirley Temples movies “Our Little Girl” he has kind of the same story line-poor man.
You know how on the covers of your books and at the beginning of chapters there are pictures of the characters-could you introduce some pictures of people like Cecilia and Hugh? maybe Mr. Grump!

Okay its getting a bit to long, I’ll leave the writing to you
keep up the amazing story writing!
I reeeeeeeeeeaaally love your books! a lot

lots of love Olivia
P.S. Are you coming to Adelaide any time soon?

July 13, 2015 at 12:31 am

    Jacqueline Harvey

    Dear Olivia,

Thanks for your lovely comments. You surely know the books really well! I’m in the middle of writing the 13th book at the moment. It’s called Alice-Miranda to the Rescue and is about lots of dogs and dog related things as well as a wedding and some friendship issues – there’s really something for everyone!

I am actually coming to Adelaide on Wednesday this week and will be hosting a cupcake afternoon tea at the Burnside Library. I believe that the event is booked out but you could always contact Dymocks Rundle Mall and the Burnside Library and see if there is a chance of a spare ticket. It’s $5.00 to attend. I wish we were doing two sessions but I think it’s only one. I’m only in Adelaide for a couple of days this time but I will be back for a bigger tour next year.

    Enjoy your holidays!

Hi Jacqueline,
I looooooooove your Alice-Miranda books and I’ve read all of them twice. All of them are really interesting and I’m totally addicted to them. Anyway I was thinking for a suggestion for one of the future Alice-Miranda books you write you could call one: Alice-Miranda goes to Australia. And she could go to Uluru and Sydney and everywhere(maybe) with Jacinta, Millie, Sloane and her parents. I can’t wait for your next book to come out! I hope to hear from you soon

    Hi Rebekah,

Thanks for your lovely message – your idea is great too. Alice-Miranda in the Alps is officially out next Tuesday but I’ve heard that it’s in lots of shops already. Hope you get to read it soon.

I just finished reading the new Alice-Miranda for the second time this week! It is AMAZING Lucas and Jacinta are sooooo mega cute! I made a ship name for them, Lucinta! By the way i’m talking about Alice-Miranda in the Alps. I am already counting down for the next book. I read the suggestion for the Alice-Mirandain Australia and i was actually thinking about that too. I am Greek so it would be awesome if they could go to Greece for a book but anything is always amazing. I also can’t wait for the Alice-Miranda in China one! OMG!

Thank you. If you do end up going to greece don’t forget the try the traditional food. Its really good! Like keftethes, souvla, souvlaki, tiropitas, bniyouri, sheftalies, eliopita, avyolemono and trahana just to namely favourites! Greeks eat a lot! I love greece, especially the food, culture, myths… Did i mention food?

I love Singapore. I was there last year in September and if it wasn’t for horrible Covid 19 I was hoping to be back there again this year. Sadly that’s not to be but an adventure in Singapore is a great idea.
