Something new is in the pipeline…but you will have to be patient!

April 8, 2017 by Jacqueline Harvey 95 Comments

Many of you have been asking me about the new series that I’m working on and I will certainly be sharing a lot more with you over the coming months as things come together. I really can’t say too much at the moment but I can tell you that the central characters are twins; a girl and a boy whose names are Kensington and Maxim (but are mostly called Kensy and Max). I am fast falling in love with them and I hope that you will too but it takes a long time to bring something to life and for the moment, I’m afraid you’re just going to have to be patient :).

Best wishes,

Jacqueline

      Hi Chelsea,

Alice-Miranda in Hollywood is about the kids being cast as extras in a Lawrence Ridley movie but there are quite a lot of things that go wrong on the set. There is also a woman called Tyger who is a paparazzo – a photographer who gets herself into lots of trouble. I can’t tell you much more as I’m currently working on it.

I haven’t started Clemmie 14 yet but I do have a good idea what it’s going to be about. I just can’t tell you – yet!

    Hi Ms. Harvey,

    Your new series sounds great!!

I am enjoying every word in the Clementine Rose books!!!

I am starting the Alice Miranda books and I am loving them too.

Is Sophie Rousseau featured in Clementine Rose and the Wedding Wobbles or is she still in Paris then? Do you have any ideas for the next Clementine-Rose book or are you first going to get Alice Miranda in Hollywood and your new series underway first?

Also, will the illustrator for the Alice Miranda and Clementine Rose books illustrate the new series? I hope so.

    Love from
    Jaida. xx

PS. I can’ wait till the new series is released – it sounds like my type of book. Actually, any type of book you write, is my type of book. 🙂

PPS. Do you have any tips for young, aspiring authors?

      Dear Jaida,

Thanks for your lovely and very encouraging words. Yes, Sophie is back in Clementine Rose and the Wedding Wobbles – but it’s a surprise for Clemmie. Yes, I do know what’s going to happen in Clemmie’s 14th adventure but it’s still developing in my head and I have to write Alice-Miranda in Hollywood first. I’m actually writing that right now! I will have to finish Kensy and Max too (at least the draft which has about 10,000 words to go) before I work on Clemmie again. Yes, Anne Yi is going to illustrate Kensy and Max – she’s brilliant! I love her work. Some tips for a budding author – 1. Be observant – look at what goes on around you and take lots of notes. Write down funny, odd, silly, interesting things and then you never know when you might use them in a story. 2. Read a lot! 3. Practice writing as often as you can – even just short descriptions or developing a character or planning the outline of a story. 4. Try to set yourself goals – eg enter a competition or write a 500 word story 5. Fall in love with your characters – they will only be real for everyone else when you love them too! Good luck and happy writing.

      Best wishes,
      Jacqueline

I really love the way in which you write, it has a very nice and gentle style but it is seriously addictive too. I hope that one day, I will write books as good as yours, too. Thank you for writing such amazing books, Ms Harvey!

      Hi Nadine,

Thank you for your lovely words. Some tips on writing – make sure that you have a notebook and you take it with you wherever you go. I now use the notes pages on my phone or iPad quite a bit because when you see something interesting/funny/eyecatching etc you need to write it down or you will forget. Practice short exercises – write a description or develop a character and drop them into an unusual situation and see how they handle it. Fall in love with your characters – I feel like mine are real a lot of the time. Plan your stories – plan the big ideas and know pretty much how it will end before you start. I don’t know all the details but I have a guide so I know where I’m heading.

Most of all have fun with it!

Hope you keep enjoying the stories.

This new book sounds really cool. I went to a launch for Alice-Miranda in China last year and you gave a preview of this new series. I really liked the sound of it and I can’t wait till it is done. Why did you pick the names Kensington and Max? Did you get Kensington from Alice-Miranda’s last name? If so, did you want some of the characteristics of Alice-Miranda to be in Kensington?

      Hi Lara,

I think Kensington just popped into my head one day. Perhaps when my husband and I were staying in London as Kensington is a rather nice suburb of London. It’s a bit close to Kennington but different. Kensington is a lot more feisty than Alice-Miranda. I’d say she’s more a cross between Millie and Jacinta in her personality where Maxim is very caring and measured but also tough and supersmart. The twins are really developing their own personalities.

I can’t wait to be able to show you more about the series.

      Hi John,

Kensy and Max is a spy series with lots of mysteries. Kensy is short for Kensington (she’s a girl) and Max is short for Maxim (he’s her twin brother). I am super excited about this series as I think readers who love mysteries will really enjoy it – there are lots of fun characters. We are currently working on the cover and I hope to be able to reveal it in the next couple of months.

    Hi Jacqueline,
I’m a BIG Fan of your Alice Miranda and Clementine Rose serises. (especially Alice Miranda) however I can’t seem to find any of your books! Where do you sell your books? Or is there a website I should go onto? I live in Melbourne.

      Hi Bethany,

Thank you for taking the time to write on the blog. I am certain that many of the Dymocks stores in Melbourne (and many smaller booksellers) carry stock of the books and, of course, online sellers, such as http://www.booktopia.com.au will also sell them.

      Best wishes,

      Jacqueline

      Hi Crystal,

The Kensy and Max series will be set on the international stage.

I have never really said where the Alice-Miranda and Clementine-Rose series are “set”; as I really want the readers to use their imaginations and make up their own minds :)>

      Best wishes,

    Hi Jacqueline!
My name is Shayla and I am new to your book series called Alice-Miranda. My mum bought the book for me unexpectedly but accidently bought book 10! I have a question for you. Should I read book 10 or get books 1 to 9 first?
    Thanks, Shayla

      Hi Shayla,

It’s great that you are starting to read the Alice-Miranda series. I hope that you enjoy them:). It’s not necessary to read the books in order; each of the stories stand on their own. Some readers do find that it is helpful to start with Book 1, Alice-Miranda at School, as it gives an introduction to the characters, particularly Alice-Miranda- however, there is a character list at the end of each book- so, it’s your choice, really.

      Happy reading and best wishes,

      Jacqueline

The new series sounds amazing. I have read most of your Clementine Rose books and most of your Alice Miranda books I love both but I per fur Alice Miranda books because there more exiting and the mystery goes on longer and I like bigger books! And I think that the illustrations are sooo cool. It would mean Heaps if you could reply. Thank you for using your wonderful imagination to create brilliant books. And I’m from New Zealand so I might not be able to read your new series very soon But I will try to read them. I love Clementine Rose and the Paris Puzzle.

      Hi Rose,

I love New Zealand! So much so that my husband and I bought a section near Queenstown last year and we’re hoping to build a house very soon. Thanks for your kind words about the books. It’s great to know that you’re enjoying them so much. I will be travelling back and forth to NZ quite a bit so perhaps one day I might get to visit your school.

      Best wishes,
      Jacqueline

I’m pretty sure that in Alice-Miranda in Japan Alice-Miranda says something about Clementine Rose when she talks about her camping trip with Millie and Jacinta.

      Hi Emma,

No, I’ve decided that Kensy and Max will have their own space in the world (as much as I wanted to have them as part of AM and CR’s world, I think it’s the right time to do something a little different.

      Best wishes,

      Hi Anony Mouse,

The first book in the Kensy and Max series will be released in March 2018. It is a little exciting and I have had fun developing the characters and plot. I can’t wait for the fans to meet them, either:).

    Hi Jacqueline,
I met you at Voices on the Coast recently!!
    I can’t wait till March!!
I didn’t have to ask when the new series will come out – I just read the comments(but not all of them as there are so, so many!!)

My brother went to Voices on the Coast too because he was a part of the media crew. He said that most people from England think Alice Miranda is set in Australia and people from Australia think Alice Miranda is set in England is this true?

      Hi Grace,

I hope that you enjoyed the Voices on the Coast Festival as much as I did!

Would you believe that ‘Breaking News’, the first book in the Kensy and Max series will be released in March, 2018, too! Another thing to look forward to.

I have never really said where Alice-Miranda lives, I would rather that the readers use their imaginations- but your brother is correct, many English people assume Australia and vice versa.

      Best wishes,

      Jacqueline
