Voices on the Coast – a fabulous festival on the Sunshine Coast

August 3, 2017 by Jacqueline Harvey 12 Comments

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending the wonderful Voices on the Coast – an annual literary festival for primary and secondary students hosted by Immanuel Lutheran College and held at Sunshine Coast University. It was great to meet so many enthusiastic readers and writers and to catch up with lots of author and illustrator friends too – and make new friends as well. I shared an apartment with the uber talented (and absolutely lovely), Karen Foxlee. Karen is the author of some very special books including A Most Magical Girl and Ophelia and the Marvellous Boy to name just two.

A huge highlight for me was meeting one of my biggest fans, Mae and her mum Trudy, who had come all the way to the Coast from Ipswich. It was such a thrill to see them and I was so pleased to be able to sign Mae’s books too!

I had some wonderful senior student assistants who could anticipate my every need – so thank you to them too.

It was a whirlwind couple of days and I have to compliment Kelly Dunham and her team (including her husband Clint, who made sure we all got to where we needed to go) on a fabulously well-organised event. I loved being part of it!

      Hi Grace,

Shame that the competition is based on the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge. Why not keep an eye on the Events tab of my website, where we post details of events once confirmed. You could also ask you teacher/Librarian to make contact via my website at https://jacquelineharvey.com.au/teachers/.

      Best wishes,

      Jacqueline

    to Jacqueline,
can you please come to boondall state school in QLD? I really want to meet you and get a autograph in Alice-Miranda in Hollywood when it comes out in September. I tried to tell my friend Emily to read Alice-Miranda but she said no (I can’t believe it)

      Hi Lucy,

I would love to visit Boondall State School but, I need to be invited by the school. Why not ask your teacher/Librarian to make contact via my website on https://jacquelineharvey.com.au/teachers/. I can’t make any promises, as my touring schedule is arranged up to one year in advance, but I will try my best.

It’s ok that Emily is not a fan of the Alice-Miranda stories- we all have different tastes, that’s what makes us interesting :). Please let her know about the new series, Kensy and Max? Perhaps that may be more to her taste- I’m super excited about almost every aspect of the first book, ‘Breaking News’, and hope that old and new fans alike will love the new series, too!

      Best wishes,

      Jacqueline

What genre is the Kensy and Max series?
Also, what age group would you recommend the new series for?

          Hi Tamara,

Kensy and Max is a spy adventure series with lots of mystery and intrigue. There are plenty of funny bits too. I adore the first story and I hope you will too! I think it will appeal to quite a broad readership from about 9-14 at least.

          Best wishes,
          Jacqueline

      Hi Tahlia,

No I didn’t go this year. You usually only get invited to festival every couple of years or more apart. Hopefully I’ll get to go another time soon.

      Best wishes,
      Jacqueline
